Tyres

I want to change the size of my tyres because I can never find any in stock and have to wait then pay a silly price for them.

I have 205x60x13 low profile tyres on wellar wheels I want to keep the wheels, any idea what other size would be ok? might just change the back 2 axels and leave the front.

Any thoughts:confused:

Low profile

Not sure, but maybe it is the low profile that is costing?
Maybe get rid of low profile as I wouldn't think it would make a lot of difference on a m/h as not exactly racing around.
Be very carefull about mixing and never on the same axle.

I would never mix sizes on the same axel, but did have slimmer ones on the front on my old van.

if you alter your profile of tyre and keep the same rim size on the rear it may well affect your speedo buy giving a false reading normaly if your car or van is fitted with 195x70x14 and you go on a lower profile like 195x60x x 14 then you are basicaly putting a smaller size wheel on the axle the only way you can overcome this is by using a 15 inch wheel i.e 195x60x15

Not bothered about the speedo can use sat nav for that, and im not sure if I can only use 13inch on the rear swinging arms and want to keep all 4 on the back the same size, so if ive got 205x60x13

its the 205 thats the problem could i have 195 or 185 by somthing by 13?

Hi Cas.

I'm not suprised you are having problems with that size of tyre as really 205/60 X 13 is only a retro boyracer tyre for mk1-2 Escorts, Capris etc.

If you want to keep your rims you are going to be limited on choice of tyre mainly by the width. If you rim width is 6" you could probably go down to a 175 tyre although I would suggest a 185/70 would be a good choice, (also OK on 6.5" rims), this would have a slightly greater rolling radius but not enough to make a big difference, and I doubt you would have any clearence problems even on the front.

If your rims are 7", 195 tyres would be the narrowest you could safely fit.

By the way what are you running, I would guess a Starcraft or similar.

Very Good post

if the tyres are for a van i would make sure that whatever size you put on or commercial type as this could affect your outcome of mot ect

DO make sure the tyres you fit are within the load rating for the axle! Your 205's will probably have a higher load rating than 195's, so you may need 195CR tyres, these are commercial van tyres with 6 or 8 ply sidewalls rather than 4 ply.

If you need further help get back to me.

This is getting complicated now, the ones ive got on arent commercial, and theres not been a problem with the MOT, My axels are cortina

Hi Cas.
Your axles may be cortina, but you have 2 rear axles to carry the extra weight of the M/H conversion.
If you know how heavy it is fully loaded, a decent tyre fitter will be able to give you all the information that you require.

I also have a load table, so if you know what the VIN plate load is... or better still put the vehicle on a local weighbridge (look up public weighbridge in phone book, google etc) and find out what weight you are REALLY carrying on each axle, then let me know and I can tell you which tyre load rating you require.

The back ones are only trailer arms and not even braked, think ill look into what geoff said and try 185/70. Now I hope no ones gonna say my new springs that Ive had made for the back with an extra 2inch added will affect my MOT as well:D

This is good advice:cool:

Hi Cas.
It is quite possible that as you have 2 rear axles that your tyres are within the weight limits, but to be sure you would need to weigh each axle individually:confused:
I hope that your new springs have been fitted to both axles, otherwise one axle may be taking the bulk of the weight
