Tyre pressures

65 Front and 50 Rear.

These figures obtained from using a weighbridge and using the tyresafe chart.
 
The first time I came across camper tyres from Michelin was on a van I bought in 2000. When I asked what was so special about them I was told the reinforced side walls were to stop flat spots due to m'homes standing much more than commercial vehicles. Since then I have heard two more reasons introduced to the arguement, one being that motorhomers always overload their rear axles (I don't) so that extra strength is needed (yes I know; load indexes) and the latest one is kerbing. The other problem I have experienced with Michelin is sidewall cracking. This last may have been cured recently but it and their attitude to rear axle pressures have put me off them. Currently using Continentals.
 
Isn`t yours a tag axle and the reason the rears are considerably lower ?

That's correct Wooie and like every other motorhome on the road, the correct tyre pressure is directly related to the load it is carrying. :)

I wrote to Continental and asked for the recommended pressures for our axle weights. Very prompt and detailed reply. However I do not understand about the max pressure in the US ?

The tyres in question were Continental Vanco camper 225/75 R16 CP 118 R

What`s wrong with manually checking the tyres once a week and or before every trip ?
Yes, I agree, that is what we should all be doing as part of our initial journeys.

However, in addition I find the tyrepal sensors are very useful in letting me know during a journey that there is potentially a problem as they not only show how the pressures vary left, right, front, back but also they show the temperature of each tyre. That has been extremely useful to know when descending steep mountain passes.
