Tyre date stamp

According to Daily Express (so it must be true!) the change is for tyres on steering axle of buses, lorries and coaches - NI not included?

Very common to swap bits and tyres around for mot over here. ;)

I have not seen anywhere that it will apply to Motorcaravans , of any weight .

"Our intention is to introduce legislation making it an offence to use tyres 10 years or older on certain vehicles. This is to improve road safety for all users. Our current focus is on heavy goods vehicles and larger vehicles used to transport passengers. We are also considering if it is appropriate to extend this legislation to taxis and private hire vehicles, and how to enforce the requirements for these vehicles. The vehicle types included in our proposals are heavy goods vehicles (category N2 (over 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes) and N3 (over 12 tonnes), heavy trailers, including semi-trailers (category O3 (over 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 10 tonnes) and O4 (over 10 tonnes)) and buses, coaches and minibuses (categories M2 and M3). The full definition of these vehicle categories M, N, and O, which are based on EU Regulations is available at: https://www.vehicle-certification-agency.gov.uk/vehicletype/definition-of-vehicle-categories.asp We are also seeking views and evidence on extending the ban to taxis and private hire vehicles. We are not including cars, motor caravans, trailers (3.5 tonnes and under) or caravans (3.5 tonnes and under) in these proposals. "

It will not affect me because i change my tyres at 5 years max but if it`s correct and includes motorhomes over 3,500kg it needs taking seriously.

Think the OP owns an MOT station reading some of his other posts so he should know.

He may own an MoT station but the broad statement about ALL vehicles over 3.5T doesn't seem to align with what Gov.uk has to say

I do note that non steering axles are included for single tyres.

I should think that the best advice would come from the manufacturers. Ten year life span (in general usage) then remove and replace. No doubt some will claim they have a commercial interest in stating ten years, but it makes sense to me. I usually wear out or replace before ten anyway.

Copied straight from .gov site
This ban will apply to tyres fitted to the front axle of heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches and to the tyres on all axles of minibuses when fitted in single configuration. Re-treaded tyres will be subject to the same restrictions as first-life tyres, where the date of re-treading will be used to determine the age of the tyre.
