Hi all,

We’ve never bothered with a TV in the van but carry an external hard drive loaded up with movies and TV serials which we watch either through a 17” laptop or 10” tablet. Picture quality is obviously not too good so was thinking of buying a 16” 12v TV and a media player. I’ve seen these two and wondered if anybody had any comments or recommendations. Thanks in advance,

Hi Pat

I've ordered this from Amazon £119.00. It has a power consumption of 13 watts. It has good reviews.

16” HD Ready LED Digital TV with built in DVD player - Cello Electronics (UK) Ltd

The avtex are superb TVs but the one you have put a link to is also has satellite capabilities, but if you are not going to use satellite you could get the same model without satellite cheaper

I have that Avtex telly, but with satellite tuner, highly recommend it. I also have films loaded on a memory stick which is mostly what I watch.

I have a similar media player, it is great in the van or at home because it is 5v and works plugged in to a USB port, I plug mine in to the TV USB port to power it or with an adaptor in a 12v socket, I carry a 1TB hard drive full of films and it plays every format.
I buy a lot from gearbest.com, I have never been disappointed.

Another vote for Avtex. We use a Sumvision Micro 4 media player, connected by HDMI to the TV. The player can either run from mains or 5v electrics, if not on EHU I run it from one of the USB ports on the Avtex. TV programs, films and anything else we want to watch copied onto a memory card in the player.

We just plug a USB hard drive (eg 500GB)

Into the AVtex
Just works
Simply copy what you need using a PC/Laptop onto the USB harddrive (in a suitable file format)
Why faf about ?

get a raspberry pi put osmc on it (kodi) will play just about any media at 1080p or 720p

will run of the usb port good for films of a pen drive or music

Hi pat hope you guys are well,a Avtex are bullit proof, also if you sit at a angle to the screen you still see the full picture whereas some others you have to be directly in front of them .
Hope to cross paths and all the best
Regards Gordon

Hi Gordon,
We’re both well thanks and enjoying a Spanish winter, we’ve been here a month now and it’s been scorching hot. Went to a Chinese hypermarket today and bought a massive parasol, of course it clouded over ten minutes later and everybody is blaming me!
Watching movies on the laptop is rubbish. Sat side by side a couple of feet away and we’re constantly fiddling with the screen so one or other of us can get a decent viewing angle. It’s also power hungry. Looks like an Avtex is our next investment.
All the best to you and yours,
Pat
