Truma space/water heater element may have stopped working

Yes thanks. I know the approximate area but excavating it will be another matter I think. I'll take a look when we get a bit of dry weather (and when I can be motivated :) )

On our current trip we have noticed that the hot water has not been heating up to full temperature even after being on for a good long while. There is some warmth in the water but it doesn't get hot. This is on mains EHU.

We are also getting warm air blown but we think we have noticed that the MH isn't getting as warm as usual. I caveat this though as this is our first time out this winter in a cold snap so it may be us!

My question is: has anyone changed the electrical element in their Truma boiler themselves? Is it a DIY job? I'll have to confirm the model but I think its the 6E and in my memory banks I think it may have 2 elements (but happy to be corrected on that one).

I guess I'll need to test the element first so any advice on that would be helpful too.

Of course if I cant get at the boiler then this all becomes elementary (sorry!) as it seems to be well hidden somewhere at the back of our MH withing the cupboard/garage construction.

Everything works as it should do on gas btw.

Thanks for reading.
Hi Do you still have the old element? Im needing sizes to see if the crowd who I buy my elements from can manufacture. Ive looked at the elements on fleabay but would prefer if I can get a couple locally .

Hi Scotia,

If the heater is working fine on gas but not getting the water fully hot on electric, the electric heating element would be one of the first things I’d suspect.

I’d check the exact Combi model first, then confirm whether both electric settings are affected. It’s also worth checking the mains supply, fuse/MCB and any obvious connection issues before assuming the element has failed.

If the element is accessible, it can usually be checked for continuity/resistance with a multimeter, but as it involves 230V it’s best left to someone competent with mains electrics.

This may be useful as a reference for the type of replacement element used on some Truma Combi 2E, 4E and 6E units:

Definitely confirm the model and test the existing element before buying anything.

Hope you get it sorted.
