Truma problems

Hi Folks,

I have a Truma C3402 combi on my motorhome. It has just started playing up, worked fine on the drive but decided to play up and finally pack up while we were away last weekend.
On summer setting it appears to light up briefly before locking out (red light) after 1 or 2 seconds. not sure if it lights up on winter setting, fan makes too much noise.
On a couple of occasions earlier when this happened I ran the hot water for a couple of minutes, got rid of some air in the pipes, and everything worked fine, but not now.
I am running on a gaslow system and had filled up a few days earlier. I wondered if a poor LPG mix might be the problem but cooker, fridge etc work fine.
Anyway the Truma is supposed to run equally well on butane or propane.
Any ideas anyone?
Also can anyone recommend anybody near Shrewsbury to look at it? Salop Leisure are nearby but I fear rather expensive for a poor old pensioner like me.

Why not give the Truma Technical Support people a call, I have found them very helpful. 01283 586020s

Mine had been a problem for some time a couple of hard taps on alloy base with screw driver handle usually started it.

Hi Brian, as you can now see from Witzend the 's' is not necessary. We went to Dove Valley when the local dealer couldn't sort out the problem, it was quite a trip for us. The lady in Technical Support was very helpful when I rang yesterday, another problem another van, it might be worth the phone call initially.

Had a similar problem, first time it was dodgy gas in the gaslow on a cold day. Fridge and cooker worked, but the heating caused the (secumotion) regulator to trip- fixed this by warming the bottle and burning off the remaining gas. Second time was a regulator failure probably caused by the rubber hoses, new regulator, new ss hoses fixed this.

I hate to show my ignorance but what is the "secumotion" regulator ?
 
I am thinking of feeding a seperate propane bottle and regulator through the bbq point after closing off the gaslow bottles and see what happens. This would eliminate the problem being either lpg or bulkhead regulator. Any problems?

It's a special regulator that lets you use the gas while under way. It shuts off in the event of an accident :scared:

As above, the regulator detects sudden pressure drops ( eg a broken pipe) and shuts itself off. It also works the other way and if demand outstrips supply ( eg, gas not vapourizing fast enough due to cold) it cuts out.
There's a reset button on the bottom which 'normal' regulators don't have.
 
Secumotion is another way of saying the regulator has an upso ( under pressure shut off) on bilks you get opso ( over pressure ).

I personally dont see the regulator as the issue or would be surprised if it were

Hi, connected propane through bbq point. No different.
However found that if I tap, what I think is a combustion blower, just below the circulating fan the whole thing starts and runs perfectly.
Tried to phone truma, but left it too late. They close Friday at 1.30. Will try again Monday. In the meantime, does anybody know if I am right about thisbeing a combustion blower. If not whatis it? A maintenence manual or even a parts catalogue would be useful. Thanks folks.

Looks like the same thing, I'll see if I can get it off on Monday. Looks like a bit of a pig. I'm sure they built this van round the heater!
 
Hi, just wondering if it might be worth while blastng some airthrough the flu pipe just in case some rubbish, like leaves or twigs might be jamming the blower blades. Can't do any harm, can it?
The heater is very tight againstt the cold water tank, vvery little room. Anything to make life easier, (and cheaper) must be worth considering.

Brian I tried that first also reduced hover pipe and put that in as well it didn't help me but at the time I though it was worth a try.
These fans are easily obtainable and I tried 4 suppliers also several on ebay and every one had then in stock so I got the idea that they may be a common fault
