Travel Insurance - for the getting too old.

I thought, as it's that time of year again, to go online and see how much the Insurance companies were going to charge me for Travelling to and in France.

To my surprise the first one I tried, not a comparison site as their repetitive adverts all get up my wick, decided that my age of 76 was too old for their liking and 75 was the maximum they'd insure.

So, is there anyone on here who's got as far as 76 and had trouble getting Travel insurance and how did you solve it?

Any advice on companies I could contact to get a reasonable deal in my elderly and medically problematic state would be appreciated

LV offer insurance for over 75s. I don't know what the premiums would be (I am a mere 70!) but the rates and period of cover they have offered us in the past have been reasonable even though my wife has a couple of pre-existing medical conditions.

PS When in the EU we tend to rely on EHIC and only use private insurance for further afield.
 
We also only rely on EHIC in Europe, your van insurance should cover your possessions. For further afield our independent insurance broker in the village beat any of the big insurers even with USA included, and we have pre-existing too!
 
Has anyone managed to get cover for long stay trips, the longest we can find is 35 days. Husband is 72.

Not sure if it will help as we are both below state pension age but we are insured with TopDog Insurance with Silver cover. Our maximum single trip is 100 days. If we want to stay longer we have to fly back to the UK for a day before returning for another 100 if we wish.

It gets very difficult once you hit 70 especially with previous ... but as I said our broker in the village got us a good deal this year, it was so nice to let someone else do all the surfing

I claimed to be repatriated from France many years ago, certainly cost more than any premiums that I will ever pay.
