Hi Polly
We have our own plate, go to this site it explains all. So long as you are the registered keeper of the plate you want you should be able to do it easily enough
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/index.htm

We have recently changed ours, it's fairly easy and you can download the forms.

You have to change over the MOT,Insurance, Registation Document and VEL, they tend to
keep your old number as when you change vehicle later on and want to take your
cherished number with you your old vehicle tends to get it's old vrm back.

I think it was about £80 to do it.

it's only easy if both vehicles are mot'd and taxed then it's straight foreward, but if the doner has been off the road they might ask you to take it on a trailer to the nearest dvla office so they can check out the chassis numbers, also a number from a old milk float cannot be transfered onto a car/motorhome. i have transfered my number onto numerous vehicles usally the same day. looking at the photo of the donor vehicle you could have probs transfering what vehicle is it.

be sure to notify your breakdown recovery firm too, i had a breakdown and the fim refused to pick car up!!!!soon got it sorted out though:)

my dad has an old car with an old plate whitch he has owned for over 35 years it has been in a lockup since 1977 he has all docs ect but as it has been offroad all this time the number has been reissued so it needs to be reregestered with a new number of same year it also needs tax & mot to do this.
(dont know if its the same in England e,c,t but thats what happened to him:mad::mad:

just found this number on DVLA site SL 08 VAN. slob van cool

even though you can buy registration numbers, you don't actually own them the dvla can take them back any time, and if vehicles have not been sorned and are off road then when they are rebuilt then they could end up with another age related reg number, even if you apply for a registration certificate to hold the number then you have to renew the cert every year.

The vehicle details for MHG 537 are:

Date of Liability 01 01 1997
Date of First Registration 22 11 1961
Year of Manufacture 1961
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2286CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval

Your Land Rover S11 will need to be MOT'd before you can transfer the number plate to your camper.

I dont think that is going to happen soon :)

Have a look here for one.

Jeff as answered you question a SWB Landy

Go to DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online | Home

click 'vehicle enquiry'

click 'next'

enter vehicle make + reg number.

works with all vehicles, very useful if you are looking to buy a car and want to know when it was made and how much it is to tax etc....

Or just nosey:D

Jeff.

Been onto the DVLA and they are going to send me a V317 for me to fill in and send back with Mot and both log books, serial number and date of tax disc and a covering letter and payment of £80
will take 7 -10 days for authirisation and then 20 days for reg certificates and a new number for landy

So we will see I will have to count my pennies for this month maybe have to wait for next month :confused::confused::confused:

But it can be done

Polly,

Just had a look on the DVLA website and found this info for you,

To transfer the registration number, both vehicles must be:

registered at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
available for inspection
of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
currently taxed

Also enclose for both vehicles:

the registration certificate or the new keeper supplement with a completed V62 ‘application for a vehicle registration certificate V5C'
a test certificate – needed for cars and motorcycles over three years old, and heavy goods vehicles over one year old

1,Both vehicles need to be MOT'd to transfer the reg.
2,Both vehicles need to be available for inspection!

I could have shared this days ago, But on the basis I may be accused of increasing post count and pontification I declined |!!.

In simple terms the donor vehicle needs mot and tax and the recipient vehicle the same if wanting to transfer a number off a vehicle.

If you buy a number direct from DVLA on newer vehicles slightly easier process you are issued a certificate of entitlement which you can transfer via your lvlo to a taxed and mot'd vehicle.

Channa

btw regional LVLO's are inconsistant in their scruples regarding checking vehicles.

Sheffield for example perhaps 1 in 10 Leeds 5 out of 10 ....

Sorry for sharing, I only know this from having worked with both LVLO's in a previous life, I will shut up, I might be accused of posting something helpful  Heaven forbid.( I await the sarcasm)
