I have only found out about this today. We have a 2016 Hilux as the base for our demountable motorhome.

Here is the information from Toyota https://www.toyota.co.uk/help-centre/hilux-customer-satisfaction-campaign

I have checked with the Toyota recall checker and my vehicle is one of them.

So far what I have been reading about this is not happy reading. It seems a lot of vehicles are having complete new chassis, taking about 3 months to do, while some are having more minor repairs.

I will be contacting my dealer tomorrow.

I don't suppose there are many Hilux owners here?

That's a bit of a turnaround for Toyota Hilux 4 x 4s. They were indestructable in the 1980's and 90's. Hopefully yours will be Ok as it's usually consistent twisting forces that affect the chassis.

A bit of a pick up thing, the Nissan Navara had loads recalled and other too I see

This is a corrosion issue, not an overloading issue. I am not aware of any problems with mine, what is easily visible of the chassis looks fine, but I have heard others say it looked fine until the fuel tank dropped out of the bottom, so I am awaiting a call back to get it booked in for an inspection.

Reading a couple of forums, it seems almost all the Mk7's, up to 2015 are having the chassis replaced. Mine is a 2016 early Mk 8

Thank you for posting this. I bought a Hilux from new and still have it (registered 31 Jan 2014). It has been excellent (never had a breakdown or major issue) but the chassis is a rusty mess. I've just called my local dealer and they have confirmed it is elgible for the recall. It is now booked in for inspection early Jan. Thanks to you, I have just made it before the age deadline was breached (12 yrs old max).

Yours is a Mk 7 almost certain it will have the chassis replaced. Hope it all goes well and you will have a good truck for many more years. From what I hear it is taking 2 to 3 months to do and you will get a courtesy car while it's gone (but not necessarily a truck)

Sounds like a very handy recall in your case! Could be well worth getting some underbody spray treatment once chassis replaced to make the most of the revived life of the truck assuming all the mechanics, etc are still in good order?

So I have spoken to the dealer.

Wow. Just Wow. Next inspection date available July 2026. Yep, 7 months away. The story is initially this recall was only open to people receiving a letter, but it has now been opened up to anyone, and demand has rocketed.

The fact the first stage inspection is a long time away, will not hinder the process or disadvantage me. The recall scheme will remain open for at least another 3 years. It is the age of the vehicle at the time of registering it in the system so it does not matter if by they time they can fit you in it is over the age.

If while waiting, there is a chassis failure, e.g. something breaks or it fails the next MOT, you will get bumped up the queue as a vehicle off the road.

So nothing to do immediately for me.

I was also told if you want a loan vehicle while it is away, you will likely get any work done sooner if you don't insist on a Hilux as the loan vehicle. In my case I can probably go for that option when the time comes.

7 months away is not that surprising. I don't know if you remember the Airbag recall debarcle with the maker Takata mainly, impacting well over 100 Million vehicles (and more than likely your own Toyota Hilux)? Inspection and resolution waiting dates for that went into years. While that was going on I actually bought a RAV4 that was in the queue for a replacement airbag and later sold that RAV4, still waiting for a replacement airbag.

A farmer friend of mine has also got to have his hilux chassis checked, and its less than 2 Years old. Unbelievable....

ALL Hilux's up to 12 years old are being recalled. A new one like that will probably just be steam cleaned and painted.

I thought mine was an early Mk 8 but the man at the garage looking at the VIN No says it is a Mk 7. From what i hear almost all Mk7's are getting a new chassis. I will be very pleased if that is what they do to mine.
