They’re thirsty beasts! I had better mpg from a petrol manual (which at the time was only available with a low trim spec) than a diesel auto.
Very few manual vehicles were manufactured for the Japanese home market, to special order only.
You may find that you get slightly better results by avoiding supermarket fuel, some of the JDM vehicles really don’t like cheap fuel.

Not here Trev. Had an issue with a new diesel motor some years ago, the fuel (from Tesco) was tested and found to be ‘dirty’ and sooting up sensors. System drained and tanked up at esso, problem solved.
Back in the nineties I had a Mitsubishi Pajero Evo, not for the faint hearted! Big petrol v6, just wouldn’t run on cheap fuel, branded juice worked just fine.
Old fashioned (non ecu) engines don’t seem bothered about fuel quality unless set up forhigh performance. My old Isuzu trooper ran well on any quality of diesel.
I think engines have become more temperamental now they’re covered in sensors.

It does all come from the same holding tank, but the additives will be added when filling the tanker for delivery, or some tankers can mix the additives in when dropping, so one tanker can fill up both standard and premium fuels.

Actually I'm more than happy with my mpg, just wondering what anyone else gets, perhaps I shouldn't have written 'expect'. I've done brim to brim checks over a total of 3000 miles and I'm averaging a shade under 30mpg. I drive with the overdrive on and keep it around 60mph, not below, on motorways. The power is there if needed though and it is a really smooth and comfy drive.
