Tow Bar removed today 30Kgs lighter

T bar is the most usefull thing in the world, stops tail end charlies and reversing safty bump stop, taking trailers to the dump etc.

I was tempted to remove the towbar from mine when I bought it, with a view to increasing payload, but decided on balance that I preferred the protection that it provides in terms of minor rear collisions but above all risk of grounding rear overhang. Changing hab batteries from AGM to LiFePO4 has improved payload, though it has reduced weight on the front (drive) wheels, which is not entirely welcome on slippery inclines.

I took mine off, only 20Kg saving.

But in my case the TB is unusable when the demountable camper is on.

The previous owner made it easy, the wiring loom plugs into a 13 pin trailer socket and the towbar is just 4 big bolts to undo.

It will go back on in the winter when the camper is off and it's just a truck.

The PCT on my Crafter is 45kg, it’s a very useful step and a very effective rear bumper!

Yeah, every kilo counts when you're tight on payload. I’ve considered ditching mine, too, but still on the fence. useful bit of kit, but not much use if it means leaving other essentials behind.

If you have tower and tight on payload you can utilise a trailer. Depends how you want to travel

Edit: If mine had a tow bar I would take motorbike and sidecar on the back and any excess weight out the van
