Tomar Portugal.

Hi everyone.
For anyone traveling to Portugal this year I suggest you miss Tomar as the wonderful council have closed the camp site ,and told motorhomes to park in a lay by near the hospital with out any facilities and a long way from the town. Some people are understandably ignoring this and parking in the market and other spots but this is causing big problems. I can only hope the council will wake up to the fact they need tourists and reverse this stupid decision,don’t hold your breath.

Just a thought - and it is just a thought - the council may, like many publicly funded services in this country and elsewhere, be short of cash and/or labour to keep the campsite operating?

Yes ..it used to be free long ago.

That I could understand but they are using it for other events.

Maybe the other events bring in a better income for them, or suits them and the local population needs better than as a campsite?

Just at the start of the tourist season.
A really convenient and interesting stop.
Maybe they should put in a MH aire, nearby.

It's 26 years ago that we first visited Tomar.
We were astounded by the huge, empty Crusader fortress/ Church, above the town.
Plenty of space on the market field, and facilities on the scruffy little campsite behind the football stadium.
We had to tear ourselves away, because we were on our first homeward run.
I bet it's been developed a lot since then .
Could still be worth a look, maybe?
