Tom Tom file update problems

I have had problems with my Tom Tom every time I try to download an update (once a year)
The download comes into the Laptop but halfway through the transfer to the Tom Tom it packs up with an error file,
After selecting disconnect from the computer I get a flashing red cross on the tom tom,
And Upon trying to reconnect to the laptop windows will not recognise it.

Has anyone else been having this problem?

If there is any suggestions as to a solution I would be eternally grateful

What are you trying to update Michael?

Is it a TomTom Home update?

Yes I should have been a little clearer, the update is for the tom tom home updates,
 
I never use TomTom Home - there's little point.

Is the satnav working OK?

If so, and you're wishing to install POI files (for example), just connect the TomTom, cancel TomTom Home if it appears, and use Windows Explorer to copy the files across.

Personally, I'd uninstall TomTom Home altogether - it's only possible use is for map updates. I've never yet bothered with a map update.
 
I wish I had spoken to you 12 month ago Canalsman, I have had nothing but pain with Tom Tom home

I shall send it away for repair (again) and removing Tom Tom home from my computer sounds like very sound advice

hi Michael . i have a tom tom go 730 home and some of my friends all so we have had other's but we think tom tom are the best .first of all you have to connect it at least once a month it tells you that in the book . you should not remove it from the tom tom home base while the red cross is flashing it will tell you when it is safe to disconnect this doe's happen some times you need to do a soft restart when the computer says no ( not recognised ) go into F.A.Q and look until you see computer does not recognise this device click on that and it will tell you what to do i am still in Spain and my base is in England so can.t connect up to computer to tell you how to do it but you have to take the card out from the bottom of the tom tom a press restart for so many sec.s E.T.C me and my friend has down loaded lots of p.o.i on to the tom tom . you have to connect regularly to the computer to get the full advantaged of tom tom home that is why it.s home P.S my friends other sat nav got wiped clean completely when some one said they could down load stuff on his sat navso be aware hope this helps
