To wild camp or not to wild camp

I disagree I once spent 5 days in the southern lake district living out of my Ford Escort! Best holiday I've ever had. Although sleeping in the back with the seats down wasn't the most comfortable, it was all I could afford.

There's lots of people wildcamping in cars, and that was my first introduction to wildcamping as a kid. Me and my dad used to go away for weekends and park in layby's with the seats down and sleeping bags and an old two burner gas stove to cook on. Mind you that was the 70s and things were a bit easier going.

The point is that motorhomes are seen as a threat to some people. Either they assume it's travellers or someone who could park up for a long time with all the facilities to do so if they wanted. I have my personal on theory how this came about and it's political and goes back to the Thatcher years. However what I can say is it's just the opposite in France. They have a large system of Aires which are specifically for motorhomes to use. Parking on an Aire in a car would be viewed as suspicious, and taking a space for a campervan. I've seen some French motorhomers really go to town on people who take up a space designated for campervans.

Same as Llanberis - now has signs up . I was speaking to the Warden in LLanberis when I was there last. He said too many motorhomes last year were treating it like a camp site and were there for a week - awnings out, washing being hanged up for days so they decided to put the signs up; I think some wild campers (not all!!) are taking the pee and are not applying discretion when it comes to wilding. It will only be a matter or time before every POI in North Wales will have overnight restrictions if some of the wild camper brigade carry on as they are - it only takes one bad wild camper to spoil it for all.

This is a shame as this was our favourite spot.
We did put chair out in the day and have a bbq but only because we saw lots of visitors in cars come and do the same.
To be fair it is the people in car who come and leave **** loads of rubbish so I will be having a word to the wardens the next time I visit there as we go there canoeing which is what the place is for.
Although we have changed our van to a small VW now so totally discreet compared to our motorhome.

We were up Skegness a little while ago, we were parked along the seafront, quite a few motorhomes all behaving, no mess ect. Except for one motorhome, which had a jeny running, they had a shower by the amount of water running freely, and worst of all they had dogs on board (not a problem in its self), one of persons on board opened the habitation door and threw a a bag of dog poo on the pavement, it was later kicked under the van and left there :scared:. I made a mental note of the van, and said we would not be parking any were near it. It is no wonder we have so much trouble with our wild camping it makes my blood boil :mad2:
