Hi i'm new to the wild camping forum, could someone advice me please, just been away touring in north wales using the wild camp app, and four out of the five places I visited marked as wild camping points, had sighns saying no camping, no overnight parking, no caravans etc.
I moved on, but my question is should I have stayed, should these posts be removed from the pin map.
thanks from paul.

Signs - North Wales

Same as Llanberis - now has signs up . I was speaking to the Warden in LLanberis when I was there last. He said too many motorhomes last year were treating it like a camp site and were there for a week - awnings out, washing being hanged up for days so they decided to put the signs up; I think some wild campers (not all!!) are taking the pee and are not applying discretion when it comes to wilding. It will only be a matter or time before every POI in North Wales will have overnight restrictions if some of the wild camper brigade carry on as they are - it only takes one bad wild camper to spoil it for all.

they are a bunch of selfish scr*tes, I'm alright jack sod everyone else...:mad2:

You get selfish people in all walks of life so it's no surprise to find them within the wildcamping community. What is a surprise is they don't seem to get challenged when they are being anti-social.

Personally I treat wildcamping points like I would a free Aire in France. You park up for free, you don't camp so no chairs, tables or fires etc outside. You respect anyone else using the point and any facilities there are.

Pity that not everyone behaves like that!! We were parked up at a lovely quiet little spot near Carnarfon, when a motorhome pulled in. Out came chairs, fishing rods, a generator, and the final touch, - a fully inflated Zodiac dinghy emerged through the back window!!! The owner was even doing a spot of alfresco haircutting while he was there!!

Apparently, he is a frequent visitor there!! There are NO CAMPING signs at the toilet, but put there by the owner of the land. We left the next day, but I think he was there for the weekend.

It's a shame places get abused! At our favourite spot a little while ago another van had chairs out in the middle of the road and a BBQ lit!!

A lot depends on the location.

I won't say I've never had chairs out or the BBQ or a campfire. At places like Stonehenge, Helwith Bridge or Ribblehead it goes on all the time. They are remote and not in anyone's face. Plus we only stay a couple of days and leave the place cleaner than we found it.

But as a rule in lay-byes and carparks, everything stays inside the van.

What this post makes me think is that the UK needs a system of Aires like the French have

And also robust Policing to make sure that they don't get abused

I think that's what most of us want but the private sector (caravan site owners) will object to it and they control most things particularly in the seaside towns.

I've noticed more `no overnight parking` signs in Wales, has it got anything to do with the much-publicised opening of a continuous public footpath all around the welsh coast?

I think it's more likely some owners abusing the places unfortunately.

tell me why, when i pull up in a beachside carpark in my car and get out table and chairs for a picnic, i am looked at as slightly eccentric.... but if i do the same in the motorhome, i am abused and called a 'p*k*y' !!???

We did a check of the poi`s on here as we toured for a giggle and as has been said all but 1 had no parking signs on them ! We must have looked at about 20 on our travels !
I have always said as do many others that the poi`s are doing far more harm than good and eventually all places will have signs as you only have to look at how the places are being hammered by idiots .

I can understand why members keep their favourite spots to themselves.

Beacause in a motorhome people get anxious you are going to stay for days and weeks whereas that's not an option in a car.

Just people's worries about their community coming to the surface, but the more we can be responsible, the more we can change that.

The problem is different people people have different ideas of what is selfish. Take that thread in rants and raves, 9 vans parked up in one spot for 3 days, 10th van rolls up and starts a genny and they get moaned about.

Personally if I wanted to stop in one place for more than one night, I'd book onto a site. Anyone who wouldn't, I'd think of as selfish and anti social, but that's just me.

I disagree I once spent 5 days in the southern lake district living out of my Ford Escort! Best holiday I've ever had. Although sleeping in the back with the seats down wasn't the most comfortable, it was all I could afford.
