Also a lot of the trendy 4x4's are driven by people who think, just because they can get going, they can stop too. Doesn't work like that.Don't forget a 4x4 is only part of the answer, without the correct tyres you might not be a lot better off. When it snows or we get icy roads I call it 'Disco weather' as we end up with so many of them in the ditches. I regularly drive down a hill with a S bend and off camber, I can almost guarantee a 4x4 will be in the ditch on the second part of bend, and can put money on them having summer tyres on.
