Tips Belgium and France

Hi reggaj,
Welcome to the site (and welcome to Belgium too).
As for Belgium: copy the (9) provinces in the thread of this site; and you will have it nearly all.
You will see that real wilding places are scarce overhere (especcially in the Flemish region) for it is too densily populated.
Legally you may overnight in your van without showing camping attitudes (no awning, BBQ,…) when you are parked within the law. Coastal communities (West Vlaanderen) have by-laws interpreting ‘overnighting’ as ‘camping’ (however I’ve never heard of penalties). There are but few real ‘aires’ in Belgium (in the french style), some are free, some ask up to 25€/night (Bruges).

Belgium isn’t big, but you have a large variaton of landscape and culture. Only make your choice and I may give you some hints.
For France: very MH-minded, 1000-nds of aires.
Have a look on (and copy):

especially their wilding places: BTS – beauté, tranquilité, sécurité (nice, quiet, safe) and ‘bons coins’
and a happy Wilding New Year

hi there

Hi, france, germany are very motorhome friendly, lots of places to overnight for a few days or longer, I find belgium a bit harder to find places, there are a few but its a lot harder.
If I was you I would get copy of the camperstop book, this lists all the places you can stop over and gives details of prices if any.
In france you can buy copies of aires for camping cars in most large news agents, you will find this a bit more up to date then the camperstop book.
Also tip a toe into germany, again very very easy, and lots of stellplatz.
Please don,t forget your yeallow vests for each person in the motorhome and a red triangle, the french have made this law and there is a on the spot fine. also have your paperwork, insurance etc to hand.
don,t overnight on free motorway service stations, take care and enjoy.

Another thing to remember is to talk to the folks when you stop up somewhere at night. Many of them will be doing the same as you and will happily tell you where they have stayed over - we have found some super friends that way as well as useful info!

Have a great time ........ we may even bump into you if you are in Provence in May :)
