Three mobile broadband abroad

What a thoroughly worthwhile response, thanks for taking the time.

Sorry, thought you were saying that an add on was necessary. Mis read :)

50gb

Why would EE supply us with 50gbs a month :hammer if we can't use all of 'em ? Anyway, 4G is for streaming.... but don't think the French know that LOL. !!! (My sister lives there and her internet is dodgy at times even via landline....mind you the French only discovered the 'S' bend recently !!! :mad2: Maja

I bought the prepaid sim off amazon in April, well before THREE changed their overseas policy.

I have a contract with 3 and , for my needs , it's a great deal . Works well in Europe and USA .
Surprised at criticism of customer service as , for me , it is head and shoulders above other companies

....I think it's a case of different people having different experiences with different companies. Maja

I renewed my 3 monthly contract, 13 days ago.
After a chaotic 45 minutes in the Altrincham shop, I understood that my new contract, starting 4th July, would give me 4 GB, unlimited minutes and texts and tethering in the Uk. All for £12 per month, against my old contract of 2GB, 200 minutes 1000 texts,at £ 11.... most months , I was buying am extra 2 GB, at £5.
The confirmation letter arrived last Friday.
No tether, restricted bells and whistles, £10. Mmmmmm!.. Due to start 4 June 2018, for 12 months until June 2019.

Just spent another 45 minutes trying to sort it out on their helpline.

I really should try to improve my thick, uneducated Yorkshire accent. These poor young people have great difficulty understanding what I say, even when I speak slowly.
Ee Bar Goom ,tha' knaws!

Fell at the first hurdle activating my 3 sim. Activation of the three sim in my iPhone 4 says the following.

"The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact apple for more information."

This would suggest its locked but I am sure I had it unlocked ages ago. Have requested the unlock codes from Vodafone but I think they can end up getting locked to whichever sim you put in. I dont want to end up being locked to 3 if I get it working as its just a backup.

Anyone had similar?

Fibre ?

Eh ? What's fibre got to do with it ? Most households enjoy fast internet via copper phone cable here in blighty....it's just France that's slow whatever medium used....landline, mobile, 4G....!! Anyway, as long as I can use my 50gbs wherever, and your "grass verges" are kept nice n trim, jobs a gooden !! Maja

Over the years we`ve done well in France using the Three prepaid data sims in a Mi-Fi or SFR Wi-Fi Fon and signing in using our home BT Broadband login details and on our phones when roaming with Free, Bouygues Telecom and from late last year Orange F.

This year was different though whilst the SFR Wi-Fi Fon was just the same Three`s roaming partners speeds were drastically reduced.

I spoke to Three who blamed the French telecom companies and a friend who is fluent in French rang the roaming partners for me and they blamed Three.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "fast internet" , clearly Fleetwood doesn't suffer from the appalling speeds suffered in a lot of rural areas, where copper doesn't deliver. By way of illustration, we are on a CS just outside Stranraer and it's taken me about 5 minutes to do this reply, and that's not down to my typing speed 😂

If you on CS how you connecting to internet, mobile broadband ? Or wifi. As for copper spose it depends on where you are. My sister is in rural France with no fibre but streams via her firestick ok down copper lines. It's not her speed...but intermittent failure !! Any sign of them running fibre up there in Scotland to the rural areas...there's always talk of it from the company's ? Maja
