If one drinks too much beer, one may need a funeral bier, OR as the old, somewhat macabre ditty has it:

'He set his sister's hair on fire,
Sing rickety, tickety, tin,
He set his sister's hair on fire,
and, as the flames grew higher and higher,
He danced around the funeral pyre,
Playing a violin, a lin,
Playing a violin' ... :ROFLMAO:

Or as was once reportedly engraved on a grave stone;

"He had his Beer from year to year and then his Bier had him"

Morning folks just joined. So just two trips in and I already realised I screwed up. Spent way too much money finding and buying my perfect VW Transporter and then spent way too much making it into a posh van that you can actually only sleep in. I didn’t want a pop top or kitchen and cabinets 🙄.

We just got back from a trip and loved it but disliked the lack of space.

So it seems to get what we want a high top Ducato/Boxer/Relay will be on the cards. And hope I don’t lose too much money selling the Transporter. Just need to find the right length van.

Thanks for listening, sorry to moan in my first post.

By the way, threads sometimes go off topic. 😐

You have to have a list of essentials, and a list of desirables. The essentials are non negotiable, the desirables are.

The lists are different for every single person. But you can’t choose a van without knowing them. Trouble is, it takes a bit of travel to really decide on the list.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies folks. So it is just my wife and I and two small pups. I think an L2H2 van of no more than 5.4m like a Boxer/Ducato would just fit. Just to add to the nonsense we have limited space to park in. And having looked at them the size would be a game changer.

So to the question of improving my current van I thought about that, but it would mean an extra cost of 8-10k. Which frankly I dont have right now for reasons I wont go into. But whilst I wont get back everything spent it doesnt seem a good idea to pour in that much more.

We visited a few dealer's and sat in the vans for quite a while, they seemed happy for us to take our time, we went for a rear lounge first time round, but decided it was just a bit too small, and went for one with a dinette, which was nice but wasted a lot of space, a front dinette with a fixed bed was next, no where to lounge but on the bed, so then we had three front lounge ones with mid kitchen and bathroom across the rear, quite nice but we missed the rear lounge, so we've been with those since.

To cut costs i built my own van from a ex libery bus, as f sinatra sang, i did it my way. 😂

None of us have, I could wire a plug and a socket, minor plumbing, took me 18 months to do mine but I learned so much doing it, and enjoyed it immensely, having a garage and a flat drive would help, but not essential.

Thanks again folks this helps to build my confidence. Im now more certain a Stellantis L2H2 van is what I need to get the tranverse bed for my 6ft frame, and just about fit our parking space. Looked at the L2H2 Transits too but they are just not as wide.

Im off to the Stratford show this weekend to have a mooch at vans.

By the way I will join just watching every penny on SSP at the mo.
