Thetford cassette seal leaking

I've noticed liquid in the Wells under the cassette so am assuming that the flap/seal is not properly sealing. I remember reading on here over a year ago of some lubricant that people use but can't remember what it was. It was an unusual name? Any pointers will be welcome.

I use a very small amount of Olive Oil and about once a month or so clean it off and re-apply. We always have some in the van for cooking.

I'm not sure exactly what material the seal is made from, but if it's rubber then you certainly shouldn't be using Vaseline or other petroleum based products, which cause rubber to swell.
Probably better to use WD40, GT85 or similar product if you don't want to use Thetford's own seal lubricant.

I have the C2 Cassette and the operating linkage can be reluctant to open the flap after the van has stood for a while. What I do now is to make sure I have swilled out the Cassette with clean water, then I put a litre of water in and a capful of Bio Washing Liquid and leave the flap open. There are no bad smells, just a nice smell from the Bio Liquid, the linkage never gets stiff any more and the Cassette is armed and ready for the next trip.

Silicone grease is the only thing that should be used on the seal, I usually get a tube from Wickes it is normally used for aiding the assembly of drainage pipes and a lot cheaper than the Thetford product.

you don't mention the model but if one of the later ceramic type toilets with the grey and orange roll along cassette this was a common fault with the earlier models, had the problem myself I cured the problem by taping in a couple of thin formica strips where the wheels roll , after getting a brand new toilet supplied FOC under warranty, havn't had the problem since and still have a brand new toilet as a spare.

They are normally reliable so could well be a worn seal etc, the models that were a pain are the C250 with ceramic bowls. the seals are cheap enough and easy to change but worth trying the silicone grease first

Turns out the mechanism was faulty so they've replaced the whole Thetford unit with a new one under warranty.
