The Redferns of Dornoch are at it again

Could it be one of those COVID grants ? They weren't exactly difficult to get . Doubt if anything was checked
Covid grants were given to businesses to assist with losses made due to covid, and to cover the costs of the furlough scheme. Campsites where amongst the types of businesses which were given grants, but not for the costs involved in upgrading their sites. Any such improvements would not have been covered by the scheme.

Yes they would have received a grant anyway .
Can't remember if there was an option to give a reason for grant ?
It was a pretty unregulated arrangement. Suspect (know) a few were at it

Yes they and every other campsite in the UK.
And I was running my business at the time and I had to produce comparative figures proving my business was suffering due to covid.
Also to qualify if you were employed and earned more from your employment you did not qualify.
Also if you were a limited company you could not claim for any business losses, only the cost of furloughing your staff.
I have checked and as they are registered with companies house they are a limited company who would not have been able to claim.
They could have enrolled on the job retention Scheme to help with furloughing staff.
They could have applied for a bounce back loan to a max £50,000 free from interest for one year and then at 2.5% interest per annum.
No grants being available for business upgrades.

I used to be a senior manager in a group of companies in a previous life, and if that report landed on my desk I would send it back with:

a) where’s the executive summary?
b) please provide independent data and evidence (from several sources) to verify each of the claims made?

I would also point out that including leading questions in survey design can harm both the results and credibility of the research.

Sadly, I fear that many councillors will not have the desire to question this.

Rather than rant on here where nobody else sees it, join/support CAMpRA whose volunteers are struggling to deal with this problem, engage with authorities and get viable Aires and waste points established. They are having some successes, but their problem is too many motorhomers who are happy to join for the benefits, but too few who are willing to put themselves out to even lift a pen or rattle a keypad. Write to councillors/MPs, make sure all these good arguments get a hearing. After a number of years I stepped back from Campra leadership, the effects of old age are catching up on me. But I’m sure there’s plenty of younger motorhomers to step in to the breech and do a bit…please.
I know how much work you put into Campra Ian and what a thankless task it is when emails and phone calls are not responded to.
You outlasted our efforts considerably, I for one doff my cap to you.
Trying to persuade establishments, in all forms, to align themselves with Campra's ideals, is nothing short of frustrating in the extreme.
Well done you.

I'm sure you're right . Obviously done your homework .
I remember applying for and receiving the grants . Details , as always with me , a bit vague but it certainly wasn't a tightly controlled system .

Please Mr council, change your rules so I can make some money.
Liked the bit about 6m spacing for safety when cars are crammed in on car parks without enough room to get your doors open properly.
I checked for the number of MH fires in 2022 apparently about 350 including caravans.
Cars in 2022..... Wait for it...........18,991
Yes but from the fire putter outers pov, most cars don't have a couple of gas bottles in them. That does make an odds.

That’s not the issue with regards to fire risk.

Firefighters deal with much more dangerous vehicles than motorhomes with small gas cylinders.
The main risk difference is we don’t live and sleep in our cars, we do in our Motorhome.
But lives all about risks, and I doubt very much if the Redferns give a hoot about us being consumed by fire whilst in the land of nod in our vans. Going back to risk the incidence of fire in a motorhome then leading to it involving other vehicles, and resulting in loss of life is so small you have a much better chance of winning millions in the Lotto.

Found it, the couple should write a book, “How to alienate yourself as a campsite owner”.

I note the Scottish Government gave their response in September 2022. Well since then Scotland has seen a growth in Aires, chemical waste points, and many car parks have had their no overnight parking signs removed. Individual regions (including East Lothian) are looking at pragmatic approaches towards us. I can only assume that the Redferns are not only being ignored, but that their naive attempts to control us, in order to line their pockets, restrict our freedom, and bad Mouthing us have been kicked into touch. But will they learn, no they won’t because that takes brains, something in short supply in the Redfern household.

It wouldn't actually take too much brain power to understand the changes in their market .
Instead of howling at the moon why don't they adapt to these changes .
Pretty sure they won't

Are they Scottish? Normally us miserable Scots see an opportunity to cash in.

She is, her father owned the campsite and she inherited it.
I think he comes from Northern Ireland.
Again I think they met at university in Scotland.
But to be fair to them, their prices are not that bad, and their site gets good reports for friendliness, cleanliness, and facilities.
I am off to the loo now to be sick after that last bit :p

Bill I’ll pay for you to visit there site for a couple of nights as long as you write an unbiased review.😜😂
I am always unbiased Wully, 😇The Redfern's are a couple of idiots, I have seen more intelligent things in a zoo, and you could not pay me enough to set foot in their campsite. (Well Maybe 💰💸💴💶💷💵💲🤑)
Somehow I don't reckon Dornoch Campsite will ever see me inside it.
But I would rather spend your money than mine anytime Wully🤑
