Well David it seems I am not the only one that believes in fairy tales. and ironically as you suggest our council have latched on to the idea of public consultation too.

In terms of spare money it seems our council is subsidising using previously saved funds to address shortfall as well as making cuts, which it is predicted will deplete in three years time.

From what I can gather the ringfencing of money to one department at the expense of another , those days are over . So we don't have the silly situation one dept has surplus one doesn't and the one that has surplus spends on office furniture etc to protect the following years budget. It is a mess !!

So when Museums have closed, open spaces and other services drastically cut , a snowball has more chance in a blast furnace than Kirklees seeing an Aire.

I can't remember a year when Council leaders haven't pleaded poverty before the annual budget is approved, that is usually followed a few months later by an increase in Council Cabinet members expenses. I read Private Eye and every issue exposes councils paying large sums of money to sacked senior employees, which I have never understood, after all they wouldn't give a golden goodbye to streetsweeper who didn't sweep the streets.

I'm heading out Friday first trip in new van I'm going to a site for weekend I think for me a mixture of wilding and sites but find I use sites more in winter think it's just a comfort thing for my wife and 8 year old
Not much for her to do when it gets dark at 3pm

Good to see this thread temporarily back on track. One of the many good things about this forum is that most members are not too judgemental about members preferences and respect the choices of other's. No sinners here, possibly some angels

We mainly use informal stopovers whenever suitable ones are available but equally happy to stop in a campsite if we feel the need.
Pubstops are good too as are some town centre car parks if chosen carefully.

Would love to see Aires all over UK but sadly not likely to be seen anytime soon for reasons discussed. Lack of imagination; Self interest; Disinterest, Prejudice.

Tend to agree with most of what you say , particularly on parking .
I've always been mostly impressed with how small French towns appear to be well looked after . I now pay more attention to small towns in Britain and i think there is an improvement . Parking is not as rigidly enforced and overall places are cleaner and better looked after . This , i have to emphasise , is not the case everywhere . Good example is Alnwick all parking now being free .
There are some recent examples of aire type facilities being provided in certain places . I think progress is being made . Conversely I pass through several places in France now where they have virtually banned the motorhome . I assume because of large numbers moving in and taking over

well i am off out this weekend ,booked on a cs site not far from us at redcar for fri and sat night 7 quid a night ok no hook up there but who realy needs one ,you dont get them whilst wilding do you dont know what its like there but hey ho theres the club on site cheap beer all being well. ive two brand new 110 leasure batts they will provide all the power we need gas heater and water heater ok no cooker just hobs ,but who wants to be cooking a dinner anyway ,there will be a chippy or a wetherspoons near by ,ive got a 12v tv/dvd a polaroid cost me 14 quid local charity shop ,i snapped that up pretty dam smart it was for nowt realy . a lot of cs sites ive looked at are basic but have water, loos and chem toilet disposals and there CHEAP .
