Well some mite know we had a problem with vans sprinter lwb streering lock,at new year and forty center meters can cost most £1800 back home if 225 miles via relay, as RAC will take 3.5 tonn but not 6.9 ln length. It's 6.5m and they left us hanging.

Join the caravan and camping club then join RAC using your ccc membership it covers any size van and any weight think it’s up to 12 ton. I had to use it this summer and they took me straight home from Lincolnshire to Glasgow . If your van doesn’t fit on an RAC truck then they will bring in an independent who has a truck to carry your van. Worth every penny you only need to use it once. my van is 8.7 meters and 5 ton

Yep. My van is 7.5m and it also covers any vehicle I use!

My motorbike (towed behind MoHo) broke down in Spain and they fixed it.
They also provided a hire car (and a taxi to collect / return it).
Every day they contacted me and offered to put us in a Hotel on a B&B basis.

They've also sorted out a flat battery on the car.

I knew they had a weight limit but not a length one!
Do as Wully suggests, or alternatively get a Nationwide FlexAccount Plus which includes UK/Euro breakdown & recovery for any personal vehicle, includng big and heavy ones.

8.7m and 5 tons ? Thats a house . :D

I have RAC Arriva. Covers me at 7.3m and 6.5t and also covers myself and wife in any other vehicle . Done through CCC about £15 a month from memory. You can upgrade for European cover as well. Not had to use them but certainly peace of mind .

I too am with the RAC via the C&CC my van is 6.8 metres and weights 3.875 and they recovered me twice no problem the AA had a 3.5 weight limit that’s why we left them.

It's all rather confusing as we are with safeguard Insurance who provide the full cover via the AA. Our MH is 8.7m ad 5t as well and I was assured that we were covered after I specifically checked due to our size/weight.

I think that’s the thing if you are covered through insurance as an added extra or through one of the big clubs you are covered for most weights and lengths but going direct they seem to set a 3.5 weight limit we had been with the AA for over 29 years and when we changed our van to over 3.5 ton they said they could not cover it so we went through the C&CC and they were happy to cover it.

Seems fair. Good luck and please update us when you get a response 👍

I am with RAC Arrivals thru C&CC current vehicle is 7.4 mtrs and 7.5 tonne , previous was an RV 12mtr 11.8 ton . Both assured as covered . inc Europe when over there .

I used to sell reversing sensors at Motorhome Shows. One chap bought one and told me how happy he was to at last have got rid of his American RV and bought a normal sized camper. He said they dont tell you when you buy an American one that there are only 10 roads in the UK you can drive it on. M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 etc. He pre-booked a proper Caravan Club site, and when he got there he couldn't get in the gate.

Probably the least expensive option, if you're insured through AIB, is their optional breakdown cover.

£88 with no weight or size limits however the cover is only for the insured motorhome, camper van etc. 180 days European cover is included.

One thing you all forget, they will all try to wriggle out of their obligations. So until you claim you’ll never know. Often when you start digging, you may find your insurer sold your policy to another company. And other parts of your policy is with dubious companies. It’s all a gamble really.
