Have been browsing through the wonderfull pics in the "wild in France" thread and seeing the exellent facilities provided not only in France but elsewhere in europe, it set me thinking (dangerous pastime I know), but how did they come about.
Is there anyone out there who does know the history and development of aires.
The reason for the title is, were the aires set up and thereby attracted the motorhomes or, did motorhomes start using carparks, stopping places etc. there worth was realised by the locals and facilities were provided to ensure they kept coming.
If the second senario is the correct one, it may just provide some ideas to launch an additional form of attack in the quest to develop aires in the UK.
Sort of thing I had in mind was:- Locate and select suitable sites, organise several meets, together with leaflets directed at local businesses and approaches to local tourist associations. I am sure that these ideas can and will be vastly improved and expanded upon by those much more able than I.
No doubt these things have been mentioned before, and I do realise that it would need action by many, many times more people than are active on this forum. there are undoubtedly many more problems I have not even dreamt of, but as I said, I am only thinking, and that is a very dangerous thing to do.
