The Budget

Hi John, The BBC appear to have made a decision, quite rightly in my opinion, that Brits who spend an inordinate amount of time on the Spanish Costa's can only afford to do so because of the nefarious means used to afford this opulent lifestyle.

The fact that you spend a lot of time in the north of England during your brief stopovers in the UK & have even mentioned staying in the Doncaster area does not help your case. Sorry !!!

Dezi

Hi Dezi

Wierd Post "The Budget" Most of the posts were about the BBC, not much on the advantages or disadvantages of the Budget. Never mind. All in all, we are worse off, as our Council Tax is going up by approx:£5, although we were promised a freeze. We phoned the Council and asked why, they said because our earnings had gone up, I asked what earnings, they replied that we got an increase on our Pensions (inflation rate) of approx: £3.25. Ofcourse I have not given a PRECISE sum (rough calculations) I can only do this when the payments come through. Anybody has a job for me and the wife, falling short of a few quid for 2011/2012. ☺☺☺

Hi David & Ann

It went off course when Dezi said he had checked the BBC site and I found that I couldn't get into it here in Spain.

Back on course.

We gave up the house and live full time in the van. No Council tax but higher insurance and fuel prices escalating. Living on pensions give little room for manoeuvre other than staying put in one place for longer.

John, I bet Maingate (Jim) put Dezi up to it, then put us onto a false trail by asking the price on baccy. I must admit, putting those together is hilarious. Love the digs.☺☺☺

Hi John, love your lifestyle. Trying for ears to get the Mrs to live on the road but she won't have it. So, we have made a compromise. Winter time, 3 to 4 months in Goa, or anywhere in Asia (Flying of course) and 4 to 5 months in the MH in Europe where it is real hot. So far it is working out fine. Give and take a little for peace and quiet.☺☺☺

Getting back to the original question - a few more ideas:

1. Belgium - they appear to have got on fine for ages without any formal government at all (and I'm surprised Leo hasn't been on here to say so!)

2. On a semi-serious note, Luxembourg - they have the highest per capita income in the EU and still manage to have a workable Health and Social Care system

3. On a totally contentious note, almost any country without a parasitic hereditary head of state (but that will rule out Luxembourg, Belgium and Denmark, as well as us!).

4. Closer to home, how about Scotland - free prescriptions and no tuition fees!

I shall sit down and do some calculations because of this budget (50p on a packet of fags:mad:).

If I get 6 pet passports (£100 a time)
Cost of fuel from North East to Spain and back
Ferry cost.

It will be cheaper to do that once a year and bring back a years supply of fags than buying them in this Septic Isle.

I notice that none of you have ever offered to bring me any back. All that free advice is now terminated, you are on your own.

Miserable bunch of bleeders.....self, self, self.

Typical ex-teacher views with a leftie attitude.
Parassitic head of state? Don't you mean...probably the best export we have?
Scotland...Free prescriptions and no tuition fees...hardly the recipe for success is it.
Looking forward to the tirade of abuse...

Now there goes a man with no sense of humour!

Methinks you are correct. By the way, don't apologise for being a poor speller - as others have proved, good spelling is not necessarily a sign of intelligence!
