After seeing the budget, sitting here in southern Spain, I just wondered after listening to those baying or baaing sheep in the House of Commons, if you could choose another member country of the E.E.C. to run Great Britain, which would you choose and why?
Joan and John.

Also sitting in Spain at La Manga listened to the budget on radio 4 & still no idea how much worse off I'll be  . Just hope the no increase in road tax for heavy goods also applies to PHGV .

Absolutely no idea who would be better off running the UK, don't rate any of the current ones including all of the ones we have. Looks like as a current soon to be pensioner (65 last Friday) looks like I will lose out on the 140 quid a week pension as well. Also couldn't see anything for savers so not going to get any decent income from our savings.

OOooo careful John, this thread will encourage 'opinions' and some people on here don't like opinions.
For what it's worth, my choice would be a coalition between France & Australia due to their independent beliefs. Obviously Australia are not in the E.E.C.
I will leave it at that as I don't want to get involved in another slanging match with loony lefties that frequent this site. Nuff said!

Muammar Gaddafi is looking for another country to run.

He makes our lot seem more presentable.

I would get all your opinions off your chest now...... just in case. :D

Even the threat of Gadaffi is not enough to get me to give any more opinions on here:D

im sure we could spare a few TDs for you if you ask nicely.

Hi, Having read the financial pages in the newspaper & having filled in the Budget calculator supplied on the BBC news web page it appears that Madam & I will be about £500 a year better off.
Not sure that I agree with the supposed logic behind the figures though. The only good news that I can see for certain is that the Government is bringing back the index linked Government backed bonds later this year. A little have of safety in these troubled times.

How about Denmark - a few years back the second largest party in their parliament was one whose foreign policy consisted of a recording saying "we surrender" in Russian! Seems to make more sense than the majority of what is spouted by all sides in our one.

Hi Dezi

I have been trying to get onto the BBC website for 3 days here in Spain. All I get on any BBC site is

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

What you can try:

More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

•Internet connectivity has been lost.
•The website is temporarily unavailable.
•The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
•The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
•There might be a typing error in the address.
•If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
I have tried BBC Tyne and BBC Wear website as well as the BBC.co.uk

I am wondering if they have put a block on the sites as we are not in the UK?

I can get the bbc.co.uk website no problem & I'm in Spain. Pity though can't get the BBC TV iPlayer  but can get the radio (get that on the satellite anyway .

Hi Dezi

Same message on any BBC website yet I can gat into every other site with no problems.

Hi John, The BBC appear to have made a decision, quite rightly in my opinion, that Brits who spend an inordinate amount of time on the Spanish Costa's can only afford to do so because of the nefarious means used to afford this opulent lifestyle.

The fact that you spend a lot of time in the north of England during your brief stopovers in the UK & have even mentioned staying in the Doncaster area does not help your case. Sorry !!!

They must be clever to be able to target John so he can't get on the BBC website  I'm at La Manga near Cartagena & I can get the BBC website ok. The only thing I can't get are TV programs on the iPlayer. I'm a licence payer & the TV at home isn't being used as the house is empty, should I be entitled to a rebate for the 3 months I'm not getting UK TV

If you want to access the BBC iViewer you need to use a proxy server based in the UK - weblookup free proxy servers and you'll get a swag of them. Its the same with other national broadcasters who block users based upon the ISP they log on with.

I can watch some BBC iView programmes in Australia, also CBC (Canada) and when overseas the ABC (Australia).

Which lunatic suggested a coalition of France and Australia to run the UK? Snail pies and mushy peas would have to become the new national dish!

Personally I'd suggest that Poland runs the UK - mass emigration would occur within a few days.

Hi Kontiki

I don't realy know what is going on. It may be this WiFi?

I have cleared all history & cookies. Done a Malware check. McAfee checks the system every night.

It is only sites that have BBC in the name that seem to be blocked. I did a web search and every site with BBC in the name gave me the same result. I have no problem with any other site.
