Tensioning Blinds

Hi All,

Is this a job you can do by yourself?

I've read various posts on the internet, but none seem to fit my blinds!

I've read of screws at one end - no!
Screws under end cap - end cap doesn't come off!
Pop out bayonet type fitting - no!

There's no obvious way of there being anything that will tension anything, just the screws that actually hold the blinds on.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be really grateful, or is it a trip to the service agent?

I twould be helpful to know the type of blind .....most blinds to my knowledge can be tightened .

always an exception but more info would be useful;

I do not know the specific make, nor can I see a make on them anywhere obvious. If it helps the blinds have a fly blind that pulls up from the bottom and clips onto the top blackout blind. When the blackout blind is pulled down the fly blind goes down again with it. Two clips, one left and one right hod the fly blind to the other one, if you want it left down you push the clips to a side, then pinch a central clip (to push in a button either side) in order to let the blind up.

There was a piece in MMM fairly recently which illustrated the process but I forgot to cut it out and keep it ...

Would be worth a look at back issues if you subscribe, or know someone who does.

From your description, there should be a plastic screw with a slot at the bottom for the fly blind and exactly the same at the top for the blackout blind. You should find the slots only on one side of the roller end. Some of the blind frame may have a cover which must be removed to access the slots. You most definitely DO NOT have to remove the blinds from the frame. Have a closer look around at each end of the blinds where a screw driver can fit into a slot.

Thanks - I'll have a look tomorrow. I removed the guides on each side, but could see nothing. I'll go back and have another look. At the moment it's taking us about 10-15 minutes to get one of the blinds up as it's so loose it keeps coming out of the guides. I guess something needs doing!

I know. It is a job to put them together again. I myself at first did not know about how to adjust the rollers. I took them off and had a job putting them back again until the dealer in Germany told me what to do. From then on, it was a piece of cake. Anyway, good luck tomorrow in sorting your problem out. There is a possibility that the srings within the rollers have unwound, hence, they are coming out of the rails/guides.

At the top of the blind normally left side has you look at it you should see a recessed flat headed screw ..possibly under a cover as david and Ann suggest .......If you find the screw turn clockwise and keep testing the blind until you are happy. Both Remis and Seitz work this way.

No experience of this whatsoever, but MMM magazine articles says..

It is usually grime that has built up and not the tensioners. Do not use WD40 as it may mark the blinds. Rather than dismantling , as a first step try cleaning the guide rails and the plastic bearings supporting the roller, if you can reach them. They say ordinary household detergent (not washing up liquid) in a finger spray and an assortment of cheap artist brushes and old toothbrushes. If that does not work an aerosol solvent such as switch cleaner, or even clutch and brake cleaner fluid can be tried, but check on a small hidden area first.
After cleaning allow things to dry for a day or two and then lubricate with a suitable clear silicone lubricant such as Thetfords cassette toilet blade spray.
If cleaning has not effected a cure, retensioning the spring may be required.

I tried the easiest option of cleaning the tracks etc..... first and everything now working brilliantly. Can't believe it was such a simple solution.
