Not the nicest vehicles to drive, a little noisey and always behind their time compared to others. However they are generally reliable, cheap (in the UK) and a good size.
Not a bad drive at all and not particularly behind their time. Now if you were talking about the LDV Convoy they were behind their time using leaf springs at the front and steering box. Not a great drive as the steering feels like it's wonderimg a bit. The Maxus engines let them down a bit as we've had a few with crank shaft problems first signs being particles of metal on the dip stick. The bodywork on the Maxus is also paper thin. The central locking is also very troublesome on quite a few of the vehicles I have inspected.
I believe the Maxxus runs the Italian VM diesel engine. Plenty of poke and a decent drive, but the jury is out on long term reliability (though on a low annual mileage camper is this as much of a worry?).
I have the much maligned LDV Convoy, with the Ford 2.5di drivetrain. Yes the suspension n steering are crude by todays standards as is the power, but its simple and robust and its main issues are niggles that can be sorted, not big bucks nasties.
Get one without serious tin weevil and IMO they are fine. I'd rather have my Convoy than a Maxxus, but it is possible also that I'm odd and in a minority!
