Going away for about 5 weeks (France/Spain) and van's tax runs out end of June.
We will be back around 27th/28th June but just in case I know I can renew online from around mid-June, BUT - MOT and Insurance run out 4th July.
Will DVLA accept that?
Might try phoning them but could be one of these "hold the line" types of call, and so I thought someone here is bound to know :)

it always used to be that mot and insurance had to be valid on the first day of the renewal.

another thought declare sorn just before end of may then retax at begining of june? but that wont work if youve already left

In earlier days you could get away with a lot now with ANPR cameras they can check in and instant if your moted taxed insured got licence and what else
So even for a short journey home on UK soil I wouldn't risk not having any one of those things
Not sure if there fineable court or points offences
Someone else I'm sure will know more

That should be fine, many vehicles have the mot and insurance ending just a few days after tax, mine run out 7 days after, although I usually mot well before needed I have had to leave it till last week before now.

As long as your vehicle is insured and has a valid MOT on the day of the tax renewal you're okay and as yours will be there should be no problem. You'll also be back home before they run out so the ANPR cameras shouldn't be a problem either.

as stated dont think any problems with tax.

re MOT if i was in this ..predicament...i would be worried in case i was held up abroad for any reason,,,(health, vehicle breakdown etc)......also travelling that distance with short mot.......i would err on the side of caution and get mot done before i went even if it meant loosing a month or so mot time...........i would be looking at the safety aspect as well as the legal requiremet. (A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE)'

have a nice time.....trust you will get it sorted..trixie

I've noticed there are quite a lot of cars being clamped by police now in Spain. A quick look up of number plate shows they have run out of MOT and tax so they are definitely using DVLA now.

I have read similar, What is important to remember is a vehicle abroad must comply with the rules of its origin nation. SO a UK vehicle in France or Spain should be Mot Taxed and insured.

I drove a van back with no MOT and had little say in the matter, I informed and cleared it with my insurers pre booked a MoT for the day I arrived back in the UK all confirmed by email had the authorities started to take an unhealthy interest.

Your point re being delayed is a real one if a party member becomes hospitalised for example. You Can present a vehicle for MOT within a month of expiry and be issued in effect a new 13 month Mot, at worst over a month left a new mot should give peace of mind

as i see it you can insure a vehicle without it having tax or test .you need to be insured to drive a vehicle to a test center and you cannot tax it without either . my old bedford was parked up on sorn no tax or test and i had it insured ,the insurance company knew and oked it . the thing is if the veihcle is driven on british roads i dont know about european ones whilst no valid tax or test and you should have a prang the insurance company is at liberty to de validate your cover due though the vehicle being unroadworthy .and as has been said many times in the past we or at least i have driven without tax or without mot for a while at times ,now there are anpr cameras on every road and fitted in the majority of police cars ,its risky very risky you could have the vehicle clamped or impounded .
