Talk to me about Germany please.

In 2016 (we were on our way to / from Poland) we visited The German Border museum (Grenzmuseum Schifflergrund) https://www.grenzmuseum.de/en/ near Asbach-Sickenberg, We wildcamped close by at 51.28171, 10.02742 but on visiting found we could have stayed overnight in their car park. Facinating and well worth a day.

Do you write a log? I can't remember what I did last week...

The only part I have extensively done is the south, Black Forest and Bavaria. Did the Romantic road but IMO the only bit worth seeing is the bottom end of it in Bavaria as you get towards Fussen, (Chitty Chitty bang bang castle). My preference is stunning scenery, lakes and mountains though and that bottom and of Germany is stunning.
Schloss Neuschwanstein (or chitty chitty bang bang castle of you're Barry) is very pretty on the outside but Linderhoff next door is absolutely jaw dropping inside. We visited back in the 80s, at that time you went around the palace with a tour group of around 20 people, if you hung around at the back of the tour you could hear 20 gasps one by one as the people in front walked into another stunningly beautiful room. A must see if you're down that way.

Day to day I don't keep a diary, Judy does, and I never have. For some reason when we started travelling in our van I started a journal - there must have been a spare book to hand. From this I started a spreadsheet and once I had this it was a simple step to create a Google map. So overall a bit accidental but it has proved to be useful - looking at areas on the map where we have not visited.

As to what I did last week or sometimes even yesterday, haven't a clue. Judy and I share a Google calendar, which is useful for ensuring appointments don't clash and for reminders (tasks) - saves a lot of 'i told you about that'!

@MERL I visited Neuschwanstein a few years ago, it was stunning. I went on the Marienbruke to get photos, that was an experience too! For anyone who doesn't know it, it's a rope bridge and there is a counter on the end to show how many people are on, and it is limited to 200. If you are person 199, you hope none of the others are overweight.

We've been to Germany a few times in the MH and the highlights for us were...

- Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg (as has been mentioned): book timed tickets as it gets very busy.

- Staying on a stelplatz on the Kiel Canal: and watching the mahoosive ships pass withing a few metres of were you stand.

- Lake Constance/Bodenzee - hop on/hop off ferry to visit towns on the lake.

- Colditz...for a guided tour of the castle.

- Berchtesgaden for a visit to The Eagles Nest.

Lake Constance/Bodenzee
Oh yes, we've been there and liked it.

Funny story.

We were staying near a nature reserve. One morning, Mr001 said 'I'm a bit concerned about that duck, it's not moved away from that bouy for ages'.

We got out the binoculars (it was about 100m out from the shore) and sure enough, there was a cord round its neck, it seemed to be trapped at the bouy. I couldn't leave it so I got a pair of scissors, tied them on a cord round my neck, and swam out.

As I got closer, I was pretty amazed at how calm it was, I assumed it was in shock or maybe it had had seen the YouTube videos of animals being rescued, and knew to keep still.

But as I got even closer, I realised the reason was actually because it was a plastic duck.

Oh how we laughed. Not.

We went early to avoid the crowds at eagles nest...surprising place I thought. Big queues outside when we were leaving.
We are thinking Hungary/Germany on way back from Croatia May/ June time.
Went the romantic road last time there

Followed the Kiel Canal one year fascinating to see the ships go by so close often. We took nearly a week doing that. There is an alre (Stellplatz) towards the eastern end lots of free parking and free ferries at every road crossing. Paddled in the Baltic when we got there but not as cold as expected, ie not "Baltic" at all then on to the dams and romantische strasse. Lovely trip.

The Eagle's Nest was awesome and unmissable if you're down that neck of the woods.
Very close by just over the border in Saltzberg is a trip down a salt mine which features a really unusual layout including a trip across an underground lake on a raft, huge slides which apparently the workers used to get from one level to another and a semi high speed hobby horse style train ride for the exit.

Hmmmm.... I first went down those salt mines on 3rd August 1961. The photo tells me that we dressed in grey/black overalls and each wore a fez. I loved it, especially being pulled across the subterranean lake.

Yvonne and I returned on 16th June 2008 and we thought it every bit as much fun, even if this time they didn't give us a fez to wear.

You know....now you say it I reckon we all got overalls and fezes too, could have been cloth caps maybe? 1979 I'm guessing. We got the photo too that was snapped on the train (if that's what you'd call it) on the way out, no idea what happened to it though, haven't seen it for ages.

Sally just told me she booked Eagles Nest as she knew the queue would be long.
Bonus was the dog came with us.
Didn't know about the salt mines though.
