Gas regs and ridor
Hi
Just seen this thread and thought I would throw in my tupence worth, unfortunately the gas reg don't cover private mobile caravans or campers.
I noticed that some one said that a fridge exhaust was not vented which could be fatal assume the gas was fitted to the fridge. Although not covered by the regs any potentially dangerously fitted gas appliance can be reported to the HSE.
The fitter should be qualified but it's a grey area and there can only be action taken against them if they leave the fitted appliance in a dangerious condition.
Regulation 2(5)(e) excludes privately owned tourers. However RIDDOR regulation 11(1) incidents occurring in them are still reportable
RIDDOR - Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 seems to have been updated recentl
It's been a while since I worked on gas so this might be out of date but any one can work on the gas/electric and plumbing in a privately owned caravan/camper, so best use some you trust or who has been recommended.
Be interesting to know if your van was fitted with the relavent low level ventilation to allow any gas leaks to flow out, as well as high level vents for the co2 to get out.
Not to mention that the gas locker area should have a bottom that will burn out and drop the canister to the ground incase of a fire.
Don't know if the age of the van being converter can effect which recommendations should be followed like seat belts in old cars don't have to be fitted.
Cheers
Might be worth asking if the chap working on the van was registered with Gas Safe as he and the company should be.
