Talbot Express - Broken footstep

I have an 1992 Elddis Voyager 1 on a Talbot Express body. It has a footstep into the cab on either side - the drivers side footstep is loose/part broken. The step itself itself has a fibreglass cover and I believe it is a metal step inside this cover that is broken. Can anyone verify this and would it be a straightforward job to repair?
