help talbot 2.5 turbo starter problem some times when you go to start the engine turn the key and nothing i have checked the wires and the starter it is like new and some times you go to it the next day and there is nothing wrong every thing works fine its got me puzzled.

"Usually" its a bad earth from the starter motor to the engine/chassis.

well if you have checked the motor and say its ok next thing to do is clean all the conections ie the earth and live to the starter . then check the battery conections are clean and tight the only thing left then is the ignition switch could be that is faulty its a possibility

I recently had this problem myself & looked at all the items already mentioned but couldn`t find the problem so i asked an auto electrician who lives near me to have a look.
Connected to the battery live was a live wire with a little black plastic box halfway along which turned out to be a switch which was the cause of the problem so he worked his magic & i`ve not had the problem since.

could it be the brushes need changing or cleaning

I would go along with that as well.

It is an easy job to remove the starter motor and strip it down.

Clean off the segments that the brushes run on. Make sure that they are not badly worn. If they are, you will probably need a new starter motor. They can be skimmed on a lathe (I have done quite a few myself in the old days). You might not get to the root of the problem without at least looking at the starter motor.

thank you guys iv had the starter in to little pieces cant find nothing wrong its not very old i dont think still got paint on it like new i think it could be a little black box playing up and could be starter cable looks like some one has lashed it up at some point iv tryed jump lead from earth to starter body made no differance but i will keep you posted and thank you all again regards tony.
