Tablet for Navigation

I use Tomtom Go and it works without an internet connection but as Chris says you don't get real time traffic info, it is still a good satnav though, I use it with an internet connection and it is as good as my Tomtom 6000 truck apart from you cannot input vehicle dimensions

I've got an old Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, with built in GPS, Samsung don't offer support for it anymore so I had it flashed with an updated freeware OS. It runs a lot better now, I use the GPS Guru app (£2.99) but that's mainly for my homemade seafishing charts, plenty of maps are available for it.

Thanks all for your help.

I also looked at a GPS receiver to Bluetooth with an existing iPad mini, however, the screen is not much bigger than James’ phone so that option didn’t work, since the whole point is the phone is too small.

So ... I’ve just ordered a used Samsung Galaxy A 10.5. Large screen and GLONASS. Still cheaper than buying a dedicated caravan sat nav ... and it can be a back up if one of our iPads fails.

Is there any big disadvantage to using a stand alone Sat Nav ?

I've had a phablet for many years, I found the keyboard on mobile phones at the time to be too small for
my liking. So bought an unlocked dual sim 7", did virtually everything well enough for £60, OK it could have done
with a longer lasting battery etc. Still used regularly with a 3 data/calls sim saves kick starting the alternative
fairly topend dual sim Samsung mobile I have on an alternative sim.

Hi, do you have any photos please, also how much are you asking for it?
Thanks
Dean

Hi Dean, it's all packed and I'll pop it in the post in the morning. BTW, I gave a 10" Samsung tablet away to one of our members a while ago, and that fitted easily into the holder that's on its way to you.
Peter

Hi I’ve got the tab A which is just the job, recently I’ve been trying to come up with ideas to make a holder for it, any chance of some photos of yours and what you’ve made it from please?
Thanks
Sorry, missed your request for pics earlier.
I bought a holder that had a sticky pad to hold tablet, but no good. Found a bigger thing in a charity shop, but the suction pad was no good.
So
Combined them using cable-ties. As long as it rests on the dash on stick-on pads and Blu-Tac, it works fine.

Thanks for the photos.
When I get the one off Peter I’ll start to cobble something up
Cheers

Posted today, should be with you in the next couple of days. It's in pieces to make a smaller package, but you should be able to nail it together easily

Peter

Hi Peter,
It arrived today, I’ll get out in the van in a bit and have a tinker.
Many thanks
Dean

Have fun, all part of the 'oppy freebie thingy. If, however, it does the job for you, perhaps a donation to your favourite charity or ours (Help For Heroes) may not go amiss. We don't need to know, just enjoy.
Regards
Peter
