Hope you read this disclaimer

"Please Note: This is not an Inverter Generator. It's not suitable for use with sensitive equipment "

Firefox commented on this.

In a previous post he pointed out that in a modern van with state of the electronics it could cause problems, but in older more basic vans like mine it should be alright. A caravanning friend of mine uses a genny just to charge his battery, isolated from any electronics.

I suspect generator manufactures have taken a leaf out of Apples book and create a bit of hype about inverter generators. Yes they appear to be better, but I used to run MH charger, tv, computers etc with a simple generator similar to the OP. Once you have run it up you will find out what "sensitive equipment" are affected if any.

It's not a suitcase one, but Clarke do an 800W generator which is almost as quiet as the Honda silent generators, and around the same price as the one you bought. Looks like a good buy though!

I bought one of these at Machine Mart a few of years back :-

Clarke IG1000 1kW Inverter Generator - Machine Mart

I got in on a " Pre-Order " and paid up front so as to get it " VAT " free.

They were brand new out at the time and aimed at " Camping etc. "
being " Super Quiet " they are perfect for the job.

It took 6 months to come into the shops, anyway i got my phone call
and eagerly went to the shop to collect it along with numerous others.

Got home and i already had the correct oil etc. and some petrol so i
filled the Gennie up and started it.

What A Bloody Racket !!!!!!!! so much so that the wife came out to see
what all the noise was.

I`ve had £50 bangers that ran quieter than this Gennie, there is absolutely
no way these would be allowed anywhere near a campsite or rally.

I took it back to the shop and at first the manager didn`t believe me, so
i started it up in the shop.

The staff just stood there and looked !!!!

Anyway to cut an even longer story short i did a deal whereas i got the
Honda EU10i " VAT " Free and a complimentary 20% discount as well.

Please be aware the the " Clarke IG1000 1KW Inverter " isn`t as quiet
as they claim and i suppose the moral of this story is that you only....

" Get What You Pay For "

I`ve noticed that since i bought mine they`ve raised the noise output
from 52db to 64 db @ 7 Mtrs but i don`t think that enough.

I`m not knocking Machine Mart as i buy lots of items off them and i`m
very happy with them, but the Gennie was i different story.

Regards.

Graham

Old type

This is stil an older type and the advert is misleading 94db on the generator but they say it is 73 db - still much louder than your sine wave ones. Also seems a bit dumpier. I would say there are cheaper versions of this type widely available on ebay 2nd hand going for £60. Still pay for what you get but it is noy 73db - this machine is not quiet and you would never pay 250 for it anyway.

Thanks for the feedback, I will only be using it to charge batteries and it fits in my locker just right, i will be giving it a test next month when we go to Germany for 8 days, -20 is a good tester and as for disturbing the neighbours when they come knocking theres always the old cop-out "me foriegner no understand". Also "stay away from wife".

This I think would be my choice "Kipor IG770 Suitcase Inverter Generator"

costs over twice as much as the trueshopping generator but:

Same power output but 10k weight instead of 18K
4 stroke under 60db instead of smelly 2 stroke 73db

As the previous poster said "you getwhat you pay for"

I have the kippor 1KW version (a copy of the honda) very satisfied but its about 54-59 db and thats loud enough

Wooie,

I think you must have bought thewrong one. My 800W one is brilliant. I ad one before and let it go witha MH I sold. It was so good I bought another. Everyone says how quiet it is and notes the make.

I don't like Generators but I do have one, it is an Honda 10 i quite quiet in use, even quieter when not in use, and that is how I like it, I bought it before I knew better, and have only run it a few times , I now have Solar Panels and have no problems, I am loath to get rid of my Gennie though , I would only loose a load of money if I sold it so I will just hang on to it, I hate Awnings too, I have an awning but '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' what a boring old fart I am and I have my wifes testimonial to prove it LOL.:banana::banana::banana:

Hi Casper,

the one i bought was the one in the link i put.

The Honda EU10i is brilliant though, quiet economical, an does exactly what it says on the box.
