I have a scooter attached to a scooter rack. The clamp that holds the upright bar has broken. I have attached a photo. I think it is very similar to the clamp that holds a jockey wheel on a trailer or caravan. I am currently at Comporta south of Lisbon. Has anyone had similar problem and what are the solutions, ie, welding, or buy new clamp, but where would I get one?

The nearest garage workshop should be able to weld that up, just a crude but strong enough job would do until you get back home.

any camping shop or car accessory shop should have one, but it's only steel ,so easy enough to weld

If its only the tube part perhaps if your really stuck and cant get any help a piece of scaffolding or simular might get you out of a fix, if theres any builders around where you are.

just a thought.

good luck

That should weld no problem , strength could be added by welding on a re enforsing plate. If you have the tools remove it and take to garage 5 minutes job for a mig welder.

Thanks for replies. Have managed to get it welded which should get us to Portimao. There is an accessory shop there and should be able to get it replaced.

Wish we were stuck in Comporta...
There are worse places.
Exotic Droylsden, for instance.

Yes, very nice place. It was recommended to us by a fellow camper. Very upmarket with properties over 1 million euros. It seems to be where the wealthy Portuguese from Lisbon have their second homes. Some excellent restaurants and what a fabulous beach. We would have stayed longer if not for the broken clamp.
