We were talking about Stove Fans last night ... those fans that just sit on top of a wood burner and the heat drives them.
Now the last time I looked at these they all seemed to be pretty expensive and around the £70 mark, but I looked this morning and they can be had from around £20, which seems doable. Anyone uses these and can recommend any particular ones? (or say not to get any specific ones for that matter?).

massive selection here on Amazon .... https://amzn.to/3Aad90U

Dont know, but head fins around any expossed part of the flu will also help.

A few years back we brought a expensive Ecofan, as that's all there was at the time, we've since brought a 'cheap' Aldi one, it's debatable if there's much differance in how well they work. We also gave a Aldi one to BiL which works just fine.

"Ecofan" sounds very familar. I think that might be what I saw back then? :)

Myself and stepson both have Valiant fans on our stoves. Work very well.

First fan was the eco brand, not cheap at that time, which eventually gave up, I can’t recall how long it lasted. Next fan came from Aldi at less than half the price, this fan is still going strong. Be fair to say the Aldi fan beats the eco fan for longevity.

Calfire Caframo Ecofan was the original AFAIK, just had a look at it, and it has label with 'Made in Canada' and 'US patents'. The Aldi one say do not use if stove top exceeds 345c, our 'new' stove has full water jacket and would struggle to get that hot, but BiL's Clearview stove often runs very hot and the fan still works fine.

I have one of the original ecofans which was about all that was available at the time, not cheap but it is still going strong 10 years later

I can't remember what make ours is but it works just fine if you put it behind the flue pipe but doesn't work so well in front.

I have the Vulcan stirling engine by Kontax. Had it over 5 years ago and still performs great. Not cheap though but its a great piece of engineering porn. (y)

Got 2 from Lidl over 3years ago and still going fine. One developed a wee annoying rattle but I put a couple of weights on the base and silent again.

Made my Purchase :)
I want two fans and would usually get the same as do like things to match, but deliberately wanted to try a couple of different (but cheap) ones.

First one in the basket was the one recommended by GMJ - https://amzn.to/41EO4qB
The other one was a bit more (£22.49) but it comes with a stove thermometer which though might be interesting to see - https://amzn.to/3UKbjNX

One is a 4-bladed fan and the other a 5-bladed fan so they are a little different. Which one will be most liked have no idea :)

Thanks for replies, all (y) Very useful.

Oh, and just to say .....

Wow! that costs more than my stove!

interesting to know (y)
This (and the fans) are just to use with the portable frontier stove, not a fixed multi-fuel jobbie, so just more of a curiosity thing :)
Dug my frontier stove out of the garage today ordered a cheap fan, found the water boiler bit and also got the sports brella ready 👍

Wow my fan was just delivered looks great I was also thinking if your cooking on a larger bbq if you stood it in one corner would it blow the smoke away from the cook. 😂
