Stonehenge-somewhere to stop

Hello all,
My fella and I are heading down to Devon on Thursday for a motorcycle rally in Paignton and the Pirate weekend in Brixham. We'd like to break our journey midway. I would love to park up near Stonehenge. I used to be on facebook and was on plenty of motorhome sites. I've chosen to come off facebook as I dislike certain aspects of it. All that aside I do miss the opportunity to ask questions and get many helpful responses.
Could anyone suggest somewhere close to Stonehenge where we could park up? Thanks in advance.

cant say as a "fact" but last time I was there it looked like the carpark at Woodhenge would be a definate possiblity - woodhenge is about a mile from stonehenge

We satisfied

I passed here 10 days ago and there were several vans on the Drove Road.

If accessing from the A303 you can now only do it coming from the west.So you will turn left onto the Drove Road.

Sensible really, with amount and speed of traffic on A303, the right turn was never really safe.

Korky.

What is like coming from Larkhill side. I came in off A303. The raod is extremely rough in places. Last time I stayed there were 3 other new age traveller type buses. No issue and we exchanged hellos. I love the 24/7 guards at stonehenge. You walk round the henge outside visiting hours and they follow you like the Mafia. Even the gate marshals intimidate you when you pass over the tourists bus route. You can get really good views without paying a penny - got to be seen. If you are going to go there I would do it this year as there are moves planned for changing road system again that will prob makes access to the byway difficult.

Lane is no worse at larkhill end.

I've always found the guys where you cross the bus road very polite. Stopping buses even though I'm happy to wait etc.

Inclined to agree this won't be open forever.

Au agree I have always found the security guys quite chatty and pleasant maybe MidAgeTraveler got them on a bad day.
