Staycations

Ok lets have a whip-round, buy some fields and install a waste/septic tank bins and a standpipe, not to forget a backhander to local council planning officer, should be zillionaires in no time. (y)

Staycation is a misused word and I hate it. It was introduced into the US version of the English language to mean staying at home and taking days out, instead of going away. A country where most people don’t even have a passport hardly needs a new word for taking holidays in the home country. Unfortunately our press seem to have got hold of it (without understanding it) and use it to imply that taking UK holidays is a last resort and a second rate solution to a proper holiday. I remember a time when most holidays were taken in the UK. I like going abroad but I like holidaying in the UK too. So this horrible word is wrong on two counts. Firstly we take holidays not vacations and secondly we are not staying put we are going away.

Rant over, sorry.
