Stay TheNight Scheme Scotland

We have used a couple of these in Galloway Forest and I have filled in the survey saying I'd like to have year round use. I suppose one of the considerations is that , given the remote nature of some locations, access to and egress from could be quite a problem in wintry conditions. However, places like Clatteringshaws could be ok for most of the year. Same goes for the larger visitor centres which are open year round for the cyclists etc.

I think if your common sense camping the rangers would turn a blind eye😉
You're probably right there. There was a man and his three kids in a bell tent at Stinchar Bridge when we were last there and he was set up on a patch of grass in the car park. He said the ranger had had a chat with them and had brought them some milk and bread etc. to save them making the trip into the shop. So it seems there is a bit of leeway if common sense is followed but ,as we all know, common sense is a rare attribute.
