St Andrews

Simply

Very very interesting reading. Rob.still think they are shooting themselves in the foot.
Going all out with the council this week ,make or break!🔫💣

Good luck Gordon.

Maybe email Big Willy and Kate as well ! (Do not tell Seamus)

If I read the sign correctly you must have prior permission to overnight. Therefore:-

I hereby grant all registered members of the Wild Camping Forum permission to park where and when they please on or near The St Andrew's Golf Club.

There that should cover that one.

Bernie.

Lol lol
Wouldn't it be great, if it was that easy lol lol.
But I will print it off just in case lol.

I know I am not the only WC member to have been told "you shouldnt be there you know!" and replied that we have
permission from the council and that we leave the site cleaner than we find it, Not once did the complainant have a Fife accent (maybe they went to a posher school than me, Denny High) these people have no interest in the benefits we bring to local businesses (unless they own them!) but are there on the strengh of pensions earned elsewhere.
To them we are spoiling their bit of paradise.
Tough!

I've read posts on this forum of ten and more vans at St Andrews and fires and thought this won't last. Of course it's intimidating to the locals to have this number of campers when they walk Pooch. I've spent a night there, but alone, and thought it was a nice site, but wildcamping spots will continue to be lost when large numbers of vans converge on a spot and overstay there welcome regardless of the relatively small contribution made to the economy.

Absolutely correct . There was a thread last year about a meet there . Not sure of the numbers but I think well attended . Said at the time that meet organisers need to think again about venues .
Not for a second saying people did anything wrong but big groups meeting up anywhere cause concern [illogical as it maybe] amongst locals . More importantly it provides ammunition for those who already have an agenda

I've attended these meets. Fires tend to be late at night on the beach and all debris cleared by early next day, no dog walkers about then, more likely to deter doggers! A lot of liaison with locals and wardens, organiser even arranged litter disposal with wardens who were quite happy to sit and chat with us, and always disposed of litter not belonging to us. Our meets are usually obvious as Rallies, with a banner usually on display to say who we are, so shouldn't really be intimidating. Even the police give us a cheery wave.

But try asking the local chippy in St Andrews whether our contribution was relatively small. Or in the pubs, come to that.

Just a bit of info! After a meeting today with Fife council I was informed it was because of ( not an organised meet) but that of a spot check that was carried out there were up to 35 units motorhomes, tents and caravans some with generators and some with other items of furniture set up is the main reason this problem has arisen and NOT by organised meets that HAD prior consent, hope this will give you a bit more insight as to the PROBLEM.

I wasn't actually talking about the Meet, several people mentioned going and finding lots of other vans on the site. This means that it is an ongoing situation and an organised meet just means another bunch of vans to the general public. I don't think we realise just how intimidating a lot of caravans ( it's how the public see our campers) parked up in an area is. To many it is no different than a traveller encampment.

and if they had done a spot check when you were having your meet ?
I already said I was sure that you had done nothing wrong . Unfortunately big groups cause a [perceived] problem .
Go to St Andrews a lot without any problems . There is now a problem there .
All I'm asking is that people who enjoy meets try to be a little more considerate where they hold them .
Not having a personal pop at anybody .
