speeding

Hi all. Today whilst at work I have to rush to find a fella who could be in dire straights. I work in mental health. I have a clean licence and a sat nav to warn me if I speed. Im driving along a quiet B road rushing to this house, when the police pull me over. Apparently its a 30mph road yet my sat nav says 60. I had a look under the new speeding fines and points system. Apparently im a band B speeder. That's 100% of my weekly income 4-6 points and even a disqualification! Holy ****! And all I was doing was rushing to this fellas house. It was an honest mistake and look at what can happen. I might even have to go to court. Crap! I didn't even know of the new speeding stuff introduced in 2017. Im a very honest person but it makes no difference. So be warned.
Are you sure it was a 30 zone have a look at the signage, if tom tom does not warn you of a speeding area it may be new,or you need an upgrade. Alkham valley near me has gone down for a long way from where it was originally signed as 30, That's nearly a mile in increments over time, without knowing, I drove along it until I came to a derestriction sign with 30 the other way. It was sneaked in but no doubt the notice was put in the local papers which I never see. The repeater signs were lost in foliage and totally unseen. Luckily no body was following me but tom-tom said 50mph for that bit.

Have a look at post #18.

Hi again. Our police force do a decent job up here and I dont have a problem getting done for speeding as I admit I was doing over the limit. Its just I genuinely thought it was 60mph as can be seen from the pic. Its also in the middle of the countryside, has no buildings around other than those few on the left, its a mile long straight with no history of accidents. The only sign on the road is that small one in the pic. Ill get a fine and some points but I hope the panel of magistrates will at least look at the pics and listen to my genuine reason for rushing to see a very ill person who im sure if he could would support me.

Oh well, I drive an Octavia and a motorhome so ill drive everywhere at 25mph in a 30mph. Best get a camera to record all those audis up my arse. Christ, an old fart like me gets done...theres no hope. Until those driverless things become a reality then theres no speeding at all. Tell it "take me to France" sit back and enjoy. Until it crashes.

Firstly the NIP (notice of intended prosecution) states that SAt Nav is no excuse so forget that one. Or houses etc.

Note sure if that is a full size 30 Limit sign or repeater one. It should be a full size one at start of the 30 limit, check it is and photo/video any thing you can that may be incorrect.
Definitely get witnesses, employer request to attend and the person you were to see statements or other written evidence ASAP before they forget.

:idea-007: Were you given a ticket there and then, if not it must arrive within 14 days.

X your fingers there's a cock up on it somewhere, they did on mine once so it had to be withdrawn :banana: 45 in a 30!! , they got the place of the offence wrong:)

It has quite a few buildings along that stretch, if you haven't noticed them you need to open your eyes.

There should be a big 'gateway' sign at the start of a new limit - can't really tell from your pic if that is it or not. Get a good lawyer, if you're fussed about the points/fine.

Street lamps is the clue. Plenty of them further down the road.

where there are street lamps, as earlier said, speed limit is always 30mph except if stated otherwise... eg 20mph in school areas

suggest OP gets a highway code and has a look....

The 30 sign in your photo doesn't look like a full sized sign, it looks like a "repeater" - just there to remind you and warn you about the speed camera. There MUST be a full sized sign further back or the signage is not legal. If the proper sign is obscured by foliage then take a photo of it and use in your defence. Also it is odd that the repeater is on the right hand side of the road.

Forget speed awareness course, I got done for 36 in a 30 and I was told it was too much over the limit for a course. The limit had only just changed - there were 30 signs which I missed but the 40 hadn't been scrubbed out properly on the road surface so I thought I was OK when the camera flashed.

Forget the "notice of intended prosecution must be received within 14 days" bit as well. I didn't receive the original letter till about 6 weeks later - after I had phoned to query the reminder, had received the copy which they sent and written querying the delay in issueing and the "40" still visible on the road. I got a reply by return from the Chief Constable of Lincolnshire telling me the signs said 30, markings in the road are not relevant and their records "clearly show that the notice was sent out within the required time scale". There was no postmark so I couldn't prove otherwise.

Just stating the LAW!

"How long does it take for speeding fine to come through the post?
If you weren't stopped by the police for the speeding offence (eg it was caught by speed camera), the vehicle's registered keeper must be sent a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days. You may have to go to court if you ignore the notice.

There's an echo in here lol.

As OP:

when the police pull me over.

So, all not relevant unfortunately :(

Just had a look on Google Earth DL15 9AA, and you are cooked, the sign for thirty is way up the hill passed the Church Hill turning and there are streetlights all the way down on poles so repeater signs are not needed.. I must admit it is a bit restrictive at 30mph , maybe 40 but 30 it is. Sorry but that is the way it is, a beautiful place for a speed camera , they probably get loads every day.

Just done the same thing and agree. NSL up the hill, lots of houses and signs for pedestrians in the road. None of that is a judgement, everyone will have done similar at some point.

Yep I agree, im cooked and actually dont mind getting done for speeding if I intentionally was a speeder. My point is I thought according to my sat nav that I set to stop me speeding I was doing 43 in a 60. Secondly, its in the countryside and has NO record of any accidents. Literaly a mile into town, boy racers park on the path and double yellows, block the A road causing people to swerve round rip arse around and nothings done about it. Thirdly I was trying to get to see a seriously ill person who may be in a bad way. I have stood in front of magistrates many times as part of the job so fingers crossed they take a little pity. Police Officer was ok but trying to say I was rushing to assess a potentially suicidal fella cut no ice.

On a side note has everyone seen the three different levels of fines and points? If you work in say my band B group ill get fined %75 to %125 of my weekly income and a possible 4-6 points all for a genuine mistake. Gulp! And my break pads, front shocks, cam belt and MOT need doing. Bugger. Im to old to sell my body and the wifes seen better days so that's me skint for a month.

I also often use my satnav as an aid to stop me inadvertently speeding, but I know it has several errors around the area I live, so I treat it as a back up, of cause that's easy for me to say sat here at my keyboard, and I've relied on it a couple of times when I seemed to have missed a change in limit.

tis very annoying to be caught speeding and we all want it to be someone else's fault... but bottom line - its down to us drivers to know the law and to choose what speed we drive at. i was really angry when i first went to "naughty drivers school" - and only went to avoid points on my license but i did get a lot out of it....(but clearly not enough to make me a perfect driver, otherwise i would not have needee 2 more naughty driver school attendances!!!) The responsibility for knowing the law and the current speed limit is entirely and 100% up to each of us. Learn from the experience, buy a new Highway Code, read it and move on.

How come you did it three times, you're only allowed one (per three years),or do you do it every 3 years.
Unless it's Dorset where you can get away with it as they don't share info
