Reported in The Telegraph. Not sure if motorhome visitors are included. If anybody here attempts to cross the border from France to Spain in their motorhome from 15th May please advise of requirements if indeed you are even allowed in.
“Spain will make all international visitors observe two weeks of quarantine from May 15 to counter the threat of new Covid-19 infections entering the country.
Spain’s government said the step was necessary to prevent the emergence of “paradoxical situations” in which foreign tourists could enjoy Spanish resorts when national citizens are still subject to restricted movement around their country.
Only half of Spain has been allowed this week to move around local areas for social purposes, but inter-provincial travel remains banned.
“It wouldn’t make sense that someone from mainland Spain cannot travel to their second home in the Balearic Islands, for example, and a person who lives abroad can fly in. We should avoid such perceived injustices”, Fernando Simón, head of the Spanish government’s health emergency department, said in answer to a question by The Telegraph.
Germans who own holiday homes on Mallorca in the Balearics have been pressuring Spanish authorities to allow them to travel to the island, despite the continued restrictions on movement in Spain. Lufthansa has announced flights from Germany to Palma de Mallorca, starting in June.
Under the government decree announced on Tuesday, foreigners entering the country must self-isolate for 14 days in their private homes or hotel accommodation, with the only exceptions being cross-border workers, truck drivers, transport crew members or health workers required in Spain.
During the fortnight self-isolation period, international visitors must be available to be contacted by Spanish health authorities, and they must inform local doctors if they experience coronavirus symptoms. The only reasons for a person to leave their lodgings are to buy essential supplies or visit a health centre, and they must wear a face mask.
Mr Simón said that Spain had brought local contagion under control and was preparing to return to a situation similar to that of February when virtually all cases were imported.
Tour operators and transport companies must inform travellers of the quarantine requirement in Spain before travel tickets can be sold.
The law will expire when Spain exits its current state of emergency, declared two months ago in response to the country’s Covid-19 epidemic, which has become Europe’s largest with 228,030 cases and 26,920 dead.”
