Solar Showers

2litre bottle placed in dash during the day is enough to do my hair and good strip wash wash get a bowl big enough to fit your feet and plastic bag ,plce bowl in plastic bag and strip wash stops water soaking into carpet ,and like they said go for a swim every coplu of days or if you have the nerve roll up towel and wander on to site just like hoiliday maker use shower then wander off not that i reccomend the last optionand not that i have done it either (cough cough}

No, I've never wandered onto a campsite either, of course..... :eek:

I have a solar shower which works quite well for a quick rinse-down providing I can find a nearby wall to climb on to heave-ho the cumbersome bag onto the roof (rarely any means of filling it in situ).

Hair washing remains a problem though due to the amount of water needed: Although a plastic bottle left on the dash heats up quickly on a warm day I need a lot more than 2L to even dampen my mop and even 20L barely touches it. I've tried the dry shampoo but wasn't impressed. I turned grey and spent the day smelling of stale coconuts so it's back to finding remote waterfalls!

They are the ones I was looking at but would just put it in a bucket of water.

I don't have space to start putting 25l containers in and trying to avoid a fitted sink. I've just about got room for my bed and a cupboard! I might be able to put a container/bucket in the back and use one of those pumps. I think it will be trial and error from the sounds of it to see what suits me! Could be interesting! lol

Yep, it can be very tight in your kind of van. Still, underfloor may be worth a quick nose around to see if there is any space, or underbonnet, under cab seat, passenger footwell, engine area etc They make some very strange shape tanks eg CAK Tanks - motorhome - caravan & boat accessories - horsebox & marine accessories - parts - uk - camper parts - caravan parts - motorhome parts - discount accessories

as already said weedkiller sprayer is the best really .have had one for years .used it alot when in the vw,s . find a quiet place drop a shower curtain around the rear lift up hatch and fire away.
solar is ok for summer or abroad . but weed killer is cheap . mines never had any thing but hot water in it. think i bought it in 1979.

We have a solar shower - not really used it yet (havent been away long enough!!:sad:) - only for a wash not a full shower. We like to park quite remote so I think if I stick a shower curtain over the back doors I might be able to have a shower?

If we casn get some sun to heat it that is:wacko:

I had a look at various showering solutions for our wildcamping forays and ended up with this one - no campervan but living out of a VW Amarok 4x4 truck: Kampa Geyser Campsite Hot Water System & Shower: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

There are a few clips on Youtube showing it in operation.

Not a cheap option but I also use it as an independent source of hot water for other purposes so can claim it as a legitimate business expense, plus it made sense as we already have on board a 7kg bottle of butane for cooking and 3 or 4 x 25lt ex-swedish army water containers. We found that if the ambient temperature is low, (as it was on our recent Hebrides trip), 're-cycling' the water first through one of those rubber feed buckets that you can get from farm/equestrian suppliers really brought the showering temperature up - and the unit fits inside it when not in use. I was just talking about garden spray bottles on another thread regarding showering the dogs :) Never thought of using it on myself though!

hi, yes you change the end bit for a shower head with an on off switch.
the bag showers you stand up in used to be also used in bedsits years ago . they came with a pump up bottle that really was a garden sprayer just badged different.
have also seen shallow water tanks on roof bars with a shower attachment . these are used alot by the off road boys on expeditions .paint them black .but can get extremely hot . the tanks about two inches high but quite large in area .

Hi Em

Even tho i have a shower in my van, i have only used it 3 times in 5 years, i find it much more cost effective to go to a swimming pool, especially when water is a premium and gas is so expensive, the showers are usually really nice, and most times they are free, which is even better
