So how cold is the Fridge right now? Teutone's fridge thermometer!

some may recall that I had some trouble running the fridge on gas. All solved now and working well.

While I had everyting apart I thought this would be a good idea to fit a thermometer to see how cold the fridge is. Up to now I had used some wireless thermometer recommended from some members on this forum.
worked really good but I was fed up of the control unit flying through the van when I had forgotten to put it away before driving off.

Then I saw this little beauty on EBAY :rolleyes2:
A 3 in 1 thermometer, voltmeter and clock display! All for a Tenner.


decided to fit it to the plastic shroud of the fridge which I had taken off already to chase some other faults


peeled the Ci sticker off and found this :dance:


some masking tape to mark up the hole to cut

from the plastic leftover from the window I formed to blocks to mount the switch board. All fitted with Superglue

I also fitted an ON/OFF switch. The display is quite bright and there is already enough light in the MH at night. The two little black dots are the mode and set button for the display

only thing which is probably not to everybody's taste is fitting the probe for the thermometer. I had to drill a hole through the roof of the fridge to get the cable with the probe inside the fride.


Now I am eager to go out for another trip and test it all! You can set the display to show each mode permanent or to scroll throught the three modes
 
Excellent post, and a very neat job. Mind you, so long as our fridge makes enough ice for my G&T then I'm happy with the internal temperature!

Just purchased one off ebay - exactly what I have been looking for, for years.

The internet never ceases to amaze me - within a millisecond of clicking on your post my little search was over.

It would be really interesting to hear what yours (and others) fridges are running at come the summer. l've seen 15c in mine before now.

with the wireless thermometer I have pretty much confirmed the -20degC below ambient rule.
It was cold a few weeks ago and I didn't think it would require to take the outside vent covers off, how wrong was i ! Didn't go below 10degC inside the fridge.

And no matter of how much venting one does to the rear of the fridge ( I have an temperature controlled fan fitted), if it's 30degC plus on the outside, your fridge will struggle to achieve really low temperatures. That's when a compressor fridge scores.

BTW I found out that the voltmeter reads 0.1 Volt to low compared to the rest of the gauges I have.

Q: Can you give details on fitting a backup battery, as I only want the unit to work when the fridge is on?

It comes with a backup battery as standard. A little coin battery, you can see it in the 8th picture.
With the yellow ring.

The big square right to the gauge is a switch in line of the 12V supply the gauge needs to function.
RED = 12Volt
Green = 12Volt to be measured (in my case RED+Green wired together)
BLACK = Ground
