What do you peeps do for your laundry when abroad for long periods?

Do you:

1. Go to a laundrette.

2. Hand wash as & when needed.

3. Use a camp sites facilities.

4. Be a minger & don't wash clothes.

5. Have a portable washing machine.

6. Other.

We do a combination of hand washing and laundrettes, we try to find laundrettes in France at the supermarkets, they are in the car park so easy to park next to one,
,
according to the Daily Mail ;) they are going to be rolled out across the UK as well next year
we also carry a spinner similar to this one, bought ours from ebay 10yrs ago for £30 though, it works on the inverter and the washing dries quickly even in Winter

Throw them out and buy new.
perhaps a nudist camp would solve the problem.

What a brilliant idea those outdoor washing thingy's are, it will be good if they are rolled out over here but I do wonder how long they would last before the vandals got at them.

The yacht way....
In a water conservation mode, this may be my favorite. Basically, you fill a 5 gallon bucket with water and add roughly a cup of Lemon Scent Ammonia. Let them sit a bit. Shake them around or stir as discussed above. Then pull them out and wring them out to dry. No rinsing necessary. You will not smell the ammonia and it does a good job of getting the clothes pretty clean with minimal fresh water. Negatives, obviously, are that you cannot use bleach (CL + Ammonia is toxic). Another negative is it takes longer and does not do as well as a traditional washer. But for most cruisers I know, this is how they wash their clothes if they do not go to a laundromat.

find a river, plenty of water, get your block of hard soap, and hand wash. then chuck on the bushes to dry. have a swim-enjoy !

When we traveled by bikes only I washed laundry in the rivers with a bar of soap. Even washed my hair. Did laundry anywhere I found water really. I used a micro fibre towel as my spinner ,place clothing on towel, roll up and wring, does a far better job and easier than just wringing out by hand. Nowadays I try to wash when ever I come across water, so far by hand but will use the machines when the drying weather goes

hand wash while having a shower, and launderette for towels and bedding.

To dry your hand wash items, find a suitable van which belong to someone else to hang on, ie, very large mirrors, bike rack, wipers etc. I recently used astrix van as we were mostly in the same area. As it was raining on and off, it took 3 days to dry. I didn't hang any undies from his van. I just gave up wearing any.

I have a sirocco miniwash machine, if anyone wants it. It washes and dries. Don't think it spins though. Email me if you want to collect.
