We are going to France for our 3 week holidays soon, and we have a 240volt 120watt slow cooker, so I reccon this uses 10 amps. We have 160watt of solar panels and 220amp of leisure batteries, and 150watt and 1,000watt inverters. Do you think that this would be ok, thanks for any advice as I know there was something similar posted earlier but I cant find it now.
Cheers,
John.

Cooker 120 watts on 12v will take 10 amps plus inverter losses about 1 amp thus without solar , Battery bank will be discharged to 50% in about 12 hours ,on a sunny day you could have upto about 10 amps from solar so it will help, All depends on the Sun :D

I fancy having go at making a Kyoto type solar cooker Kyoto Box Solar Cooker - YouTube as an alternative to using electric
I have some foil covered 50mm thick insulation board, I can make a box out of this & I have a piece of perspex for the top (I also have an A4 magnifying lens I got from poundland as I thought it might come in handy one day) . I have even thought about making a slim version that I can mount under one of the skylights, I have made slats to heat my solar shower this way & had the water over 70 degrees C.

Do the same cooking in a fraction of the time with a pressure cooker, on the gas.

Where's the fun in that  :have fun:
Get a Fray Bentos pie, the type that comes in a tin, place this on the gas hob , gas on high, DO not pierce the tin in any way and pressure cook by this method, GOOD TIP, stand well clear, is this FUN enough for you ? LOL
:nospam:

Your 120W cooker will need 360W Inverter power, so you will be okay using the 1000W Inverter, not the 150W inverter. The rest of your equipment, seems okay for what you want.

Another option is this

Homepage | Wonderbag

and at £30 for 2 bags (you get 1 and the other is distributed to a family in Africa) it's a really good deal.

This sounds really good, as you could start it off in the morning, pop it into the Wonderbag, set off to wherever, and have a lovely hot meal waiting for you when you arrive! Have you used one, Drew?? Sounds a bit like the good old haybox?? Except a lot easier to store in a MH because of being squishy rather then solid. Mmmmm.....think I fancy one!!

Thanks for all the info m8s really helpfull except cleaning the fray bentos pie off the ceiling and units.
:lol-049:
John.

If you're quick with a camera, as the Fray Bentos flies upward it will look like a UFO

Everyone expects a UFO to be huge, what if there was a scourge of Micro UFO's powered by Sh*t I mean Gravy??

I've kept a couple of these in the MH for "That Rainy Day"

Despite it being torrential rain and floods, it's never been bad enough for a Fray Bentos Pie, and I used to love them!!

I've seen one!!

FRUFO.jpg

No one would believe me, but they're here, the Fraypie People.

One flew past just as I was getting the camera out, sorry about the quality, but it was a rush!!

Watch out if you get one, they're very hard on the outside, but gooey and gristly inside and can be injurious to your health.

Great with a bit of cadburys smash, and they chop them with their little knives ha, ha, ha, images.jpg
John.

Did you see this one comming??

They must be from Devon cause they're from Benton

Over the years it's been changed

People from Benton are Bentons

So From = Fray

People From Benton = Bentons then over the ages the n has been lost so now people say they're Fray Bentos

Are there little people in Devon??

Ordered one yesterday, I had intended to a while ago but didn't get round to it, I'll report back on how it goes in due course. There is another version Australia's Leading Thermal Cooker | The Official Home of the DreamPot but much more expensive, although I know there are MH'ers who use them.

Didn't know there was industrial grade recreational chemicals available in Wales..:p

Back to the thread.

We use a slow cooker whilst travelling and it's really nice to have your tea ready when you stop. I do like the sound of the cooking bag gadgee though. Bit useful for carrying a takeaway for a few miles if need be as well as doing a bit of good on the charity front and a good use of energy.

Winks

LOL!! I've just ordered one too!! They sound brilliant for MHs, love the idea of a delicious cooked meal all ready when you stop. Just hope mine comes before next Tuesday, as we are hopefully off on our travels then, and it would be good to have it with us. Fingers crossed!! Let me know when yours comes! I'll report back as well, - if my BH hasn't killed me for buying stuff on the internet again! The wonderbag will come as a lovely suprise for him...NOT!! but I'm sure once I've done him a nice meal he'll be glad I did....won't he???

Got an email today to say that it is being packed and delivery is predicted to take 5 - 7 days, hopefully yours will arrive before you go. I think, looking at the web site, as long as the food is pipping hot when it goes in you can just leave it as long as you like, just need to make sure any meat is cooked through properly. There are recipes but it should be quite easy to adapt ones you use anyway. Good luck and happy travels.

Wonderbag arrived today, looks lovely, should get some use out of it when we go to Scotland in a few weeks.

Lucky you!! Had an email to say mine is on the way, got it same day as I sent for it, so fingers crossed!! So hoping it gets here in time for our Wales trip!! let me know how you get on with it, hope you have lots of lush meals now!!

KP x x

PS How come it arrived on a SUNDAY??
