Skylight just flown off!!

Just lost the small bathroom rear skylight window on the m62 somewhere in this beautiful weather we're having!! managed to make a stop gap keep the water out - whats the best solution? is it possible to buy and fit a replacement yourself or will it need taking to a professional ?? Cheers
 
That happened to us lost 2 skylights on a caravan on the same motorway fitted new ones 40cmx40cm is standard size
 
If it's any help, the Caravan Shop turned out to be the cheapest for both the MPK-type rooflights I replaced on my caravan during the last couple of years. Only other things needed were a screwdriver, plastic scraper and white spirit (to get rid of the old Sikaflex) and Sikaflex on a roll. It's an easy job -- took me an hour for each skylight.

nearly always standard sizes, which are cutout sizes- ,280x280mm .400x400,500x500 so if you just pop in a new one ,make doesn't matter
 
Replacement sizes are easy enough to source , the weakness is the locking mechanism invariably a plastic wormgear of some description ....fashioning a latch placed between the winding mechanism and interior roof should prevent untoward skylights in the future

Cheers HD thats just whats happened think just need the cover cos the brackets are still intact

The cover is screwed on to the brackets so it is easy to replace as long as the screws didn't rip out of the brackets (plastic brackets), usually you will see the screws still attached because the cover is the weakest point
 
Mine flicked off the hatch when a branch hit it. I did not know until I stopped at traffic lights and it slid off the front roof onto the ground, I jumped out grabbed it and clipped it back on later, no damaged bits just flicked off.
 
Happened to us many years ago with a caravan, spent the week with an umbrella sticking out the toilet roof.
 
Been there done that in my tugging days. I used to tie something heavy to the handles so it couldn't fly off.
