Hello all

We let our Sky subscription lapse quite some time ago (yet again!). We are considering renewing but only if we are likely to get good coverage in our motorhome, in the UK initially.

Does anyone have recent experience? I am assuming I will be provided with a new Sky box. Will my 'old' box suffice in the van?

I appreciate we will not be able to get live sport or movies.

We have a RoadPro sat-dome.

Any words of wisdom welcome from this newbie. Thanks :)

Have you considered an Amazon Fire Stick ?

I recently bought one and and very, very happy with it

I expect you will pick up Sky just about anywhere in the UK with your Road Pro dome, but apart from the the very North of France you will get nothing in the rest of France that's for sure, and probably the same goes for the rest of Europe. Your old Sky box should work where ever it can pick up a signal. But if you are going to buy a new TV for the camper why not get one with a sat reciever built in, saves a lot of hassle.
An Amazon Fire Stick requires a good unlimited internet conection, something not everybody has in a MH, particularly if travelling thoughout Europe.

That would work but you would need a strong internet connection for streaming tv.

I have an Avtex with built in sat receiver,it works well but the only drawback is it doesn't have an EPG,the only way to get this is to use an official sky box.

Amazon Fire Stick not only needs a strong internet connection but also more importantly probably a Wi-Fi connection. Also I think most of the stuff on Fire Stick is not free to view.

I used a sky multi room box in my recently sold c class and had coverage throughout the uk.
I used the multi room box, available cheap on eBay as it used less power then the sky plus box. All you cannot do is pause and record etc versus the sky plus box.
As I recall using the sky plus box through an inverter used approx 3 amps plus you need a twin lan or whatever they are called satellite setup, the multi room box only uses one lan / cable and approx 1.5 - 2.0 amps.
I found in winter with the sky plus box, tv, lights and Truma running it was very power hungry and quickly used up my batteries.
Since changing to a pvc I decided against fitting a roof mounted satellite and use a snipe satellite and the latest Avtex tv with built in freeview and free sat so need for a seperate satellite receiver. Uses way less amps from my battery bank. I always try my aerial first and only use the snipe satellite if I have no reception.

I have a Tracvision Dome and was able use it for all UK channels about 3/4 way down into France say Dordogne last June. At the limit coverage would drop off in the evening. Once the normal ITV/BBC channels were lost we continued to receive Sky News right down the bottom of France and believe would also be available into Spain. I have digital receiver and also a Sky Box but as other posts have stated the Sky Box is power hungry.
