i have been to various so called computer shops only to have had three diffrent answers,
one is a direct hdmi cable from the sky box to the lap top but they were not sure what kind of fittings i would needon the lead and wernt sure what a hdmi port looked like some are apparently small and some are big so no usefull help there , another would allow me to recieve freeview which i dont want ,the other sujested i get a gizmo from maplins then another gizmo from some other place buy a card of some sort ect ! to complicated for me if anyone an answer i would be realy intrested

I am not 100% on the output sockets on a sky box Terry but if yours has got a "s-video out" socket it is a small circle with I think six small holes in it ( does that make sense ).

and your laptop has a video in socket you can link them direct with a s-video lead

As you can now buy TV cards and TV USB things and Digital TV USB gizmos there MUST be an answer to this problem, having just bought a 15" LCD TV with DVD player, I now find my new laptop is bigger AND widescreen, although we only use a 12v freeview box, but again an answer to the same question would be GREAT!

no it has no output socket as you describe only a scart out and a small socket semi oval and has about 10 pins inside i have not yet got the laptop as i need one with the correct sockets this seems a realy complicated question to a simple problem as i can watch broadband tv on any laptop so why not from a sky reciever ?

hi , as long as it has a scart socket there is no problem , go to somwhere like maplins and ask for a scart to s vidio adapter and that will do the trick . make sure that the laptop has s video in or buy a tv vard for the laptop as they also have s video conection on them . regards kevin:)

Another way of achieving this is to use a DVB-S USB receiver. For about £60 this will plug into the laptop and direct into the dish. All control functions are then carried out on the laptop.

Just buy a Dvb stick, plug it into usb on laptop, you get all freeview

Or take a look on Ebay. You can record programs to your Laptop H/D.

thanks for this but i want to plug it directly into a sky box and recieve my usual sky package and throw away the tv
no point having unnessary things in the camper
i hope in the future we will all be able to get wifi where ever we park and then we can do away with the dish and use broadband for all our tv watching
whilst away and at home without having to pay sky a extorsonate fee

Hi

"Win TV Nova USB S" its a box that plugs into your usb port, it comes with
